Keruvalia is having surgery today. He discussed it in this thread:

So, I'm asking that everyone pray, meditate, or just focus positive energies for Keruvalia today. He no doubt has a rough patch right now and it never hurts to have people encouraging you on.

the very best of luck to the dude - though he seems pretty determined to win against this thing, not sure if he'll need it! i'm sure he'll come out of it fine and be back with us in no time... i wonder if the hospital he's at has internet access for patients? ;)

Good luck on the surgery... and make sure the Dr. doesn't slip with the knife. Muslims are supposed to DO the decapitating not BE decapitated... :p ;) :D

Ahh, I wonder what he'll say if he wakes up and finds that the doctor made a mistake and instead gave him breast implants? :D

I think we should all pray that he doesn't get a surgeon from NS. One that Keru's arch nemesis.

To answer your question, yes. There is internet for patients. My wife - Allah bless her, she's sleeping in a chair, looking very uncomfortable - brought my laptop and a couple of my favorite games.

I will be fine. The surgery went well. My throat hurts ... not that dissimilar from strep ... and I will be released sometime tomorrow or the next day. Some news has come to light that shows I may not have to undergo the harsh chemo that I had previously thought. Further lab inspection of what they removed shows that it may not be as aggresive as originally diagnosed.

Good. I was not looking forward to the squirts or the loss of appetite - I love to eat.

Anyway, thank you, everyone, for your well wishes. I will keep you informed.

Incidently, and just so that I can hijack this topic away from its original intent - wouldn't be me if I didn't - did anyone else catch the cable showing of "The Outsiders"? I've decided everyone needs a friend like Matt Dillon's character.

"Hey ... I just killed a guy."
"Oh ... well here's a gun and 50 bucks and directions to a safe place to crash."

Yep ... we all need a friend like that.

Anyway, I'll drop a note when I get home. Thanks again.

Oh, and incidently, I just wanted to give you a little insight into what's around me.

I am the youngest person here. I am in a cancer ward - sorry, folks, I won't say what hospital ... some of you might want to blow me up! - and I'm surrounded by men.

These men are fathers, husbands, brothers, and sons. Even though I haven't been here that long, I've seen wives and mothers crying together. I've seen two men die since I've been awake. Men who had children who will now grow up without a father - a feeling I know well, having lost my father to cancer at 16.

So much blame goes around. This one smoked 3 packs of cigs a day for 20 years, that one worked in the steel mill for 30 years, and the other has Gulf War Syndrome. There's always a blame. Always someone to point the finger at.

Cancer is cancer, folks. It will never cease to amaze me that Cancer is spoken of in whispers and that it's always the victim's fault. (Oh, if only he'd stayed away from cigarettes!)

This place is full of pain and loss, but not one iota of blame.

I guess I'm just having yet another epiphany. I'm tired. I hope to talk to you all again soon.

Those are great news! I hope that's the way it turns out. :fluffle:

Your doctor has probably already talked to you about this, but if you plan on having more children, and you are going to undergo chemotherapy, it may be more than wise to deposit some semen at a sperm bank, since chemo has the dreadful side effect of sterility. Just a heads up!

Ahaha ... no no ... that apology was long before I knew about any of this. That was a genuine apology, not given out of the fear of demise. :p

You probably missed it because it's not actually advertised as a hunk thread. I kind of commandeered one where the topic was close enough for posting of hunks, and, well, that's the story.

I've had a couple of close calls with C and I know it's no fun. I'm relieved to hear that you might not have to undergo the more radical treatments ...sometimes the cure is almost as bad as the illness. I'm also surprised and pleased to see you alert and on NS. Looks like you're just too tough to keep down for long!! Keep progressing and know my thoughts and prayers are with you.

That's great! (That the surgery went well and it's not as aggressive as you thought, not that your throat hurts). Maybe they'll give you some chicken soup and ice cream. =)

Hehe.

A Muslim friend of mine has a joke where he'll yell out, "Allah Akbar" and someone else in the group is supposed to yell out, "It's a trap!"

I'm not exactly sure where it came from - probably one of our conversations, but for some reason it's really funny. Of course, we don't actually do it much in public - you get odd stares that way. =)

Well I'm home now. Can't talk ... when I do, I sound like Tom Waits with a sore throat. That should clear up in a week or two, though. Can't drink sodas or coffee (unless it's cold). Been eating a bunch of ice cream and drinking those vitamin shakes.

Makes it impossible to yell at the kids. I think they're taking advantage of that. :p
