Is it okay to call for a boycott of someone else?

I've been letting this run through my mind. I'm deeply disturbed by some individuals' opinions on the general forum. Now I think I'll boycott said individuals' posts and refuse to answer or comment on them.
Now for this to be effective, I'd have to get others to join my boycott. The easiest way to do this would be to start a thread about it. Since I'm not sure whether the mods would accept something like that or not, I decided to start a poll on what the general forum thinks about submitting threads calling for a boycott on a certain individual first.

This is a forum where ppl share opinions. Certain posters are quite offensive at times, but ya know the best way to deal with them is either 1 ignore them 2 take the piss our of what they say( this is much more fun, bit childish, but still)

Actaully focusing an entire thread on certain individuals isn't appropriate. I suggest that you bring it to the moderators attention if a poster is repeatedly offending. Or ask ppl to send a telegram to your country and perhaps ye can go from there. Although thats a bit underhanded.

At the end of the day Nationstates is only a laugh, not to be taken too seriously.

A bunch of us Old-timers got in trouble when we publicly participated in a "boycott" of a player called Inquisitors. I wouldn't try it...the mods don't like it.

In the end, I'm also interested in what everyone thinks on the issue, whether the mods would allow something like it or not.

Well, obviously I participated in the earlier boycott, because it was with a player who I felt was totally out of control. Many players were dissatisfied with how the mods were dealing with that player, so the group "shut out" was tried. A thread was posted that explained why so many of us would no longer be responding to this person, and why we felt it had come to that point. The thread degenerated (as one would expect) and the mods ended up having to mop up a big ol' mess.

All in all, I feel like it wasn't worth the trouble. If a person really is objectionable enough to warrant a boycott, it usually turns out that everybody already knows that and pretty much ignores them as it is. Plus, the players that piss you off the most tend to also get themselves banned in pretty short order, so they take themselves out of the picture pretty nicely.

I assume that you also felt annoyed that whenever you stopped discussing with said person in disgust, someone else would continue and the person would just keep spewing out their agenda.

Boycotting someone yourself because their opinion doesn't coincide with yours is one thing, encouraging others in this way is another.

I am sure that there are many people who don't agree with me and visa versa, but that is a personal matter and not one for a thread to be started on with a view to everyone ignoring one person.

It would have to be a very offensive person that fails to bring forth proper arguements. Undelia and Corneliu disagree with me on a lot of accounts, but I respect their opinions because they are reasonable and don't sink to a certain level when argueing.

Correct. Focusing threads on posters to boycott -- posting "ignore so-and-so", or posting "So-and-so is a ____________________" threads are NOT appropriate.
