What is it about the 2300 hour that makes me start threads? Well anyway, what instrument do you play? Do you even play one? If so how long, and are you relatively good...do you have any recordings on the internet somewhere?

POLL COMING!!!!

In any case, I play nothing. I can't understand music notes or anything. I'm hopeless with an instrument.

Except for the desk. I can play the desk. Been playing it for 5 years now...

I can play pretty much any instrument I put my hands on but I mainly stick to guitar and bass. I also sing and work at a semi-professional level. I've written and recorded music that recieved some airplay on college radio but the kind of stuff I do isn't mainstream enough to become commercially successful so I guess I'll stick to playing for the love of playing.

i can play lithium on the guitar, and that's about as far as my guitar playing skills go. i can play the keyboard, and i am also quite proficient with the triangle :p

I used to play the guitar, but then my parents bought me a modded playstation. I was 7 years old and I had a choice: play a playstation wih 125 gmes which were rented from blockbuster, burned, and then the real copies returned. Or, practice guitar for a instructer whom I despised. I chose the playstation, and I've been regreating it ever since...

i play guitar, badly. i have no grasp of musical theory so i'm stuck in a rut - i've been playing for 4 years or so and my picking hand technique is pretty good, but my fretting hand just has no idea where to go without understanding music and how all those notes work and stuff... :headbang:

however my flatmate is pretty good and, partly through necessity and partly curiosity & my own interest, i've gotten into music production. we recorded some tracks last week:

Erebus (http://www.hlj.me.uk/audio/Erebus%20song%2024'07'05.mp3)
Let The Lies Be Known (http://www.hlj.me.uk/audio/let%20the%20lies%2024'07'05.mp3) - my favourite of the two
(both unfinished, un-equalised, missing vocals and bass tracks, but they still sound pretty cool)
(ex-band (now broken up) website here (http://www.erebus.info), FYI)

and this one we recorded a while back during the last semester:

A Cosmic Reflection (http://www.hlj.me.uk/A%20Cosmic%20Reflection%20mp3.mp3)

and this (http://www.hlj.me.uk/Huw%20playing%20thrash%20baby.mp3) is the only recording of my own playing i'm going to let out of my sight ;) (me messing about with said flatmate's new Marshall DSL stack)

i own a Yamaha something-or-other guitar, and a BC Rich Warlock, which has gigged once, as well as a pretty decent Marshall AVT275 amp - currently broken for some reason
though i'm thinking of selling it all and getting a drum kit instead :D i seem to be better suited to drums than guitar :P

Guitar.
For 3 years but I suck. Theory bores me and I have very small hands that cramp easily :p

And the horn...I love playing the horn...Hhhhmmmm that horn...

Bass, for two years now.

I'm incredibly bad, I quite lessons because it was getting monotonous.

I fool around with an acoustic guitar, but I'm pretty bad so I try not to think about it too much.

I have small, fat fingers. Not ideal for being good at guitar.

My knowledge of the piano is limited to my right hand. Yay for me!

And I think I'm going to start saxophone after my braces come off.

I can sing. At least, I can when no one's around, or maybe that's what I would like to BELIEVE. I would love to be able to sing.

It would really help if someone could tell me where to find a good tab on an easy song. I have not learned any songs yet and it is annoying me greatly. I tried to learn "All the Small Things" by Blink 182, but when I play the chords the tab told me to play it just sounds different from the actual song.

Just out of a matter of interest, why do so many people play guitar? I personally can't see the attraction in it - please note, I'm not trying to be offensive! - and it just seems to me that nobody wants to play anything else.

What is so great about guitar?

Fretplay (http://www.fretplay.com) is one of many sites full of good tabs for thousands of songs - I'm sure other people have lots of other suggestions too.

I'm a semi-professional vocalist and a passable pianist and conductor. I also used to play the flute, but it's been so many years since I've picked one up that at this point I doubt I could play much more than "Mary Had a Little Lamb."

As for why people like guitars, it's the same reason people like pianos - you can accompany almost any song on them and you can play entire chords rather than only individual notes, with the additional advantages of portability. Plus, of course, the guitar being so deeply associated with rock 'n' roll, it's far easier for aspiring rockers to learn guitar than to create the brand-new genre of rock trombone.

I've played, and still play, an awful lot of instruments (of the ones in your poll, only the sitar eludes me). I haven't got any recordings on the net - I have some on my PC, but I also have dial-up. And uploading files of that size can just go fuck itself, really.

Like a large amount of people bored enough to do the poll, I play guitar. Although I do have recordings, they're far too mind-numbingly bad to let you lot hear.

Oh, and I play viola as well, but no-one cares about that. :p

thing is, I'll actually try (and most likely fail) to play anything, and have recently discovered that I can play bass guitar! :)
