Any Good "Dark Arts" Novels

I'm getting into the genre of the "dark arts"; vampires, witches, demons, monsters, that sort of thing. I know of many classics; Bram Stoker's Dracula, Anne Rice's The Vampire Chronicles, Mary Shelley's Frankenstien, and the various Steven King and John Carpenter novels. And I am currently reading the Hellsing manga series (something a little different :p)

What other good books of this genre can you guys reccomend. I'm eating this stuff up!

Oops.Sorry.I thought you might be interested in some old game with a very minor reference to H.P Lovecraft's Reanimator until I saw that you were only interested in novels. So I deleted my message.

Try HP Lovecraft. Creepy.

I was about to recommend that.

Stay away from Rice and King, they're both highly overrated, imo. I think that Rice became lax after her first major success and just slacked off, and each book gets progressively worse. Her books just become so damned cliched. King is alright, but I just don't think he's anywhere near as scary as people claim him to be.

Ah, lovecraft. America's greatest bad writer. Heres an article on him to help you decide if he's for you:

The bottom line? If you find b-level horror movies amusing, you will probably find him amusing.

And for a less serious look at them -- Terry Pratchett.

If you like Anne Rice you'll love Storm Constantine, she write a lot of books with dark fantasy and magical themes and her writing is so seductive. One of my fave books of hers was about this group of vampires in this fantasy world that completely takes the vampire myth and turns it on its head, it's called "Burying the Shadow"

Brian Lumley's Necroscope/Vampire World series is pretty good.

I'd also recommend all of Graham Masterton's horror novels, especially the Night Warriors series...

I'd recommend the Sabriel series (Garth Nix). It focuses on necromancy, undead armies, that sort of thing. (written for older teens, I think.)

Also the Harry Potter series-one of my favorites.
