Seriously though, I live in Hawaii currently (Stationed here) and I'm not really in any fear of being exploded by terrorist. I actually didn't even feel fear on 9/11. I think its because America is so large, that what happens in on place just doesn't seem have any consequences on you, if you aren't nearby and have no friends or family there.
Whereas I was in Louisiana when it happened, it was just a picture on a TV screen to me. And where I am now, I don't feel that anyone could attack Hawaii. Should you be less vigilant? No, but it just doesn't seem like a possibilty.
Anyways, the point I'm trying to get across, crime or terrorist or goats or whatever is really bad in another part of the country.. Well.. thats over there, I'm safe here. I'm sure thats how many Americans feel as well.

...you have written, that everyone in Switzerland ownes a Handgun? First, noone in Switzerland ownes a Handgun without a permission from the government and a shooting license. Every Handgun is registrated. Second, Switzerland has no offical Army, they have a public army. Their weapons are stored in military compounds, not at home. Third, the people in Switzerland don't shoot each other... It's one of the safest countries on the planet because it's peaceful. The last war they fought was back in the days, when the US did not yet exsist.
Personally, as nice and cute as Switzerland is they didnt get steamrolled cause no one bothered, altho if for example WW2, [is their any thread that WW2 doesnt get mentioned] if the Germans had taken England, France, they had the Italians on side, (pretend they didnt make the stuff up with Russia) so at this point we are assuming that Nazi Germany had the majority of continental Europe then they would have taken Switzerland, they just didnt bother cause there was no point at that time, and Switzerland would be perfect for gurrilla warfare, but as a general rule the Swiss are better than that, so ide pick

Well I heard that the UK officially has the safest roads in Britain, probably due to a combination of potholes that make meteor craters look like tiny dots, and more cameras than you're likely to find at a Star Trek convention.
As for crime and the rest of it, I doubt it ranks highly. Though it isn't at the bottom either.
No country deals with all dangers perfectly. So while one country may have impeccable road safety records, it may also have crippling levels of violent crime. Or it may have crime completely under control, but dangerously unsafe roads. Perhaps a country has no crime OR road safety problems, but the neighbouring country bombs it to rubble every few months. Perhaps a country has all of these under control (or simply lacks any problems to begin with), but they lack safe drinking water. Some countries (no names mentioned) haven't come close to tackling ANY safety problems.
I suppose the safest country would be a small country with a decent economy. Perhaps a tiny island nation, with a population in the thousands or even hundreds, unknown to tourists and not needed by foreign governments.
