Fame and Fortune?

We see famous people every day, in the news, in the paper, on TV, on the internet. But do you ever wonder, do all these people deserve it?

Granted, there are many who deserve the attention. A great actor or director, a novelist, or a public servant who goes out of their way. But there are also many who are just...riding the waves...be it because of good luck or a family name.

My question to you: do the majority of the celebrities we see today deserve their fame and fortune?

Thanks!

Well it does take skill to write, act, sing, etc.

Of course some people aren't as skilled as others but have a pretty face but that's society. A few centuries ago, actors were low-payed, got no attention, and were constantly ridiculed. This is the golden age for actors on the big screen.

I think that many celebrities do not deserve our attention. After all, what did Paris Hilton do?(other than that guy in the porno)

Certainly some people deserve their success but they are overshadowed by all of the idiots and fools who get it through sheer luck and waste our time.

most celebrities, unless they are a talented and culturally positive musician, actor, author etc etc, do not deserve the fame they get.
no celebrities deserve quite as much money as they do get, except the ones who work hard to produce a quality product. when nurses and teachers get paid so little in comparison to a tv presenter, it gets obscene.

but thats capitalism for you...

i think many of them have some talent and that should be respected, but their fame and grandeur is blown all out of proportion by the commerciality of, particularly, the music and film industry - not to mention the culture of the celebrity where people are reveered simply for being famous, not for whatever it is that they do that got them there. and lets not forget the news media who play perfectly into the hands of this. the winners and contestants of Big Brother and Pop Idol (etc) are a perfect example of this nonsense, moreso the former, whereby people with no talent suddenly become famous and, most likely rich, just for appearing on a TV and being made famous by the culture around them. famous just for being famous. its stupid.
i blame america - it seems worse over there ;)

and yet she's not only going to inherit a massive fortune that she contributed nothing towards, but she's lived like a spoilt fucking queen her whole life... real fair when there are so many people throughout the world who work a thousand times harder than she ever has just to survive and feed their family. when the revolution comes, she's first up against the wall i tell you...

its people like her who really fuel up my communism :p

PAris Hilton NO!!! :mp5: :gundge: :mp5: :sniper: :gundge: http://www.clicksmilies.com/s0105/waffen/violent-smiley-090.gif

Some like Micheal Jackson do deserve 'Celebrity' status.

As For Fame i think more value should be put on 'our' Royalty and not Hollywoods sack.

Fortune if Dumbarses can get 20million US a movie good luck to them but if they make shit movies they should burn.

I would like the focus of artists to be their art. And this is not a "they keep their politics to themselves," I don't-why should they?

But-I don't need to know that they shopped at such and such on Tuesday or where seen coming out of blah with so and so and whoozit gained a pound and a half and adopted a kitten. I don't blame the rags that report it (as much) as I blame the lonely cult of personality freaks that buy those magazines. What the hell. I understand, monkeys watch monkeys-but get a grip.

All I need to know about a favorite author of filmmaker or musician is about the art they create. What the process is, what influenced them etc. The minutia of thier lives should be theirs alone.

Oh, and I'm only interested in those that create something. Curios are just that and deserve no more than a passing glance-but really for the most part that's all they get-15 minutes et al.

Paris Hilton may single-handedly jump start the revolution. I don't know how much of her mocking the daily lives of the rest of us while flaunting un-earned oppulance people can stand before stabbing her to death with chicken bones.

Some do, and have real talent in their field. However, there are a lot of others that are in acting that are only there because their parents were actors or they have famous siblings. I'd say it's impossible to generalize them.

However, I'd gladly support a Communist revolution if it meant killing Paris hilton.
