Really Colodia?

If I found a party, would anyone here join/vote for it? (A moderate socialist one)

there's already a socialist party (or two) - you might want to check out their policies before starting your own (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=8861134&postcount=1)

the Democratic Socialist Party: http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=418666
The United Democratic Communist Party (w00t!): http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=418610
the Revolutionary Trotskyist Party: http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=418688

and as Aridd said its every 4 months. we're due for another one in September-ish

and come to think of it, what has happened to DHomme? haven't seen him about in ages

And with that, I'm going to go and put my nation on Vacation mode. See you all in September! :)

We're due for the next election soon. The last ones started on June 2nd. Would there be any objections to the date for the next election being set to begin on October 1st? The final list of parties taking part could be set for September 20th. By September 15th, all parties wanting to take part would need to have met the necessary criteria, and would then be whittled down to a final list of ten. We need to agree on how to decide which parties can take part, by the way.

the problem is there were 10 last time so i think its safe to say there'll be at least 10 this time before any new parties are formed (which will most definatley happen)
meaning we're either going to have to be very elitist and exclude a lot of legitimate parties from taking part this time, or we're going to have to allow more than 10 parties.

which poses a practical problem: how to run the voting? we could have two threads with two different lists/poll of parties, and make it implicit to only vote ONCE between the two threads, and keep tabs on who voted how many times (quite easy if a list is complied at the end of voting, using a search function)
but that then poses the problem of how to decide which choice the poster meant if they have voted in both threads...
i think its a workable problem though

How about having one main thread where people proposition their parties and if sufficient interest is shown (we can decide a number) then they can run? That should at least cut down on parties which no-one has any interest in running and making numbers higher than need be. Also, certain guidelines on parties could cut out people who just have random ideas and then disappear. That doesn't mean they have to be serious parties necessarily, just willing to carry through and somewhat worthwhile.

If we need two polls, it could work. The only problem is people who just vote and then realise there were 10 other options available... If possible I think it is strongly preferable to have it in one poll.

well the poll could be very obvious about there being another ten options, eg for the poll's question/title:

NOTE BEFORE VOTING: THERE IS A SECOND THREAD WITH MORE OPTIONS - PLEASE CHECK THIS OUT BEFORE VOTING HERE (link below). YOU MAY ONLY VOTE ON ONE THREAD - ONLY ONE VOTE WILL COUNT DO NOT VOTE TWICE

or something to that effect

as for the thread weeding out the unwanted parties, its certainly a possibility, though i don't like it because it restricts the democratic process if we limit it to only 10 parties. if we happened to end up with 10 (kinda like last time) then its a happy coincidence, but forcibly restricting the numbers to 10 strikes me as wrong somehow.

But plenty of people just vote on polls based on a quick scan of the question and the options. Of course that needs to be included but it won't stop plenty of people voting wrongly.

I agree with that. It would just be something to help cut it down. I don't agree really with just continually cutting down until you get 10, just weeding out useless ones that have a paragraph or so about them and haven't had any effort put into them, don't seem to have any plans to continue at all and/or haven't got barely any interest in them anyway.

On a totally off topic note: For Jazz, see if you can get your hands on any Mahivshnu. I've been looking around and that's my favourite so far, though I also like some of the stuff like Dizzy Gillespie and Louis Armstrong. Mahavishnu is more of the technically wow style.

There are already right-wing parties. The most succesful being the NS Classic Liberals. They're an ultra-capitalistic party, about as right-wing as you can get in economic terms, but not in "moral" terms.

If you want to start a new party, though, you can go here (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=418608). And please read this (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=9041641&postcount=170) if you want your party to be recognised.

Regarding the number of parties, I'm not too comfortable either about cutting them down to 10, but simply in practical terms it may be unavoidable.

You know, I've been mighty surprised in my time here on NS General in how many John McLaughlin fans I've encountered here - he still seems to be something of a well kept secret, but we are thick on the ground in this forum for some reason. Have you heard the McLaughlin/Santana A Love Supreme LP? Mighty. The Jan Hammer Band with Jeff Beck live LP is also certainly worth a listen - all the weirdness yo come to know and expect from the Mahavishnu Orchestra, but with Beck as an interesting contrast to McLaughlin's tendency to never play one note when the possibility of playing twelve is open.

I like Jeff Beck and it is a strange combination to imagine.
