I wanted to be a sniper with some latin american guerillas. No, seriously. I even started sharp-shooting as a hobby until someone told me that I could never be a successful sniper with glasses, or even contact lenses. :(

Then I just figured I'd be a revolutionary, period.

Instead, I just think about sex a lot and plan on going into Aboriginal Law in the next couple of years...

At some points in time I wanted to be an inventor, an adventurer, an astronaut, a doctor, a lawyer, a soldier, and an executive. I am currently 16 years old.

But for about 3/4 of a year now, I have known that I want to be a politician. I am going to do ROTC (probably Air Force) for 4 years after college, then I'm going to make money by doing freelance business, and finally (when I'm around 30), I am going to run for political office, and work my way up to the top as fast as I can.

When I was in Elementary School, I wanted to be an astronaut (since my Uncle works at NASA, and bought me a nice telescope I loved).

From about 12 on I wanted to be an artist.

Now I've compromised and run a small web design/Flash animation company. I guess I made it as a commercial artist (what I went to school for).

Pirate! I even wanted to lose a leg so I could have a peg leg. I had the plastic sword, fake beard, tricorn hat etc. I was really committed to being a pirate. Then over time, the dream started to go...
However now I'm hoping to start a career as a well paid rich person.

i wanted to be a fighter pilot. too bad im colourblind, long sighted and short sighted. currently i want to be a history teacher (which ive applied for at uni) or a freelance mountain leader/instructor (i will have to change my course if i want to do this).
I too wanted to fly fighter planes but I too am colorblind. I think I could have faked the funk, cause it's not too bad-but then I became a pacifist. Hard to be a consciencious(sp) objector in a fighter plane...

I didn't really realise this until I went to answer the question but I trundled through my dads broken dreams as a kid. After colorblindness ended my ambition early I wanted to be an aeronautical scientist (the distinction was important-not engineer, scientist. As I grew up of course I realized that the distinction was also made up...what I was really talking about was being an engineer). That was largely because I was going through my dads old text books on aeronautical engineering. He actually wanted to design cars and felt that aerodynamics was the future of car design. He was right and would have been on the forefront but he did real estate instead and got an ulcer.

I wanted to be a race car driver, but started at the same time and place as someone who really did make it so it was clear that I didn't have what he had. Very clear. (without him I could have fooled myself)

I wanted to be a musician and was for a while and I'm going to get back into it. It's just that in two years of writing plays I had already recieved more awards than in my life as a musician, so that seemed like a pretty clear signal.

Everything but the playwrighting is something my dad wanted to do but didn't for one reason or another. (His dad, my grandfather, was a professional racer and we both tried to live up to him. He died too early to realize I wasn't going to make it, so maybe his last thoughts where that I could and he could be cool with that.)

Sorry for the long unfunny post, that revelation just hit, so...

in elementary school: lawyer, college professor, chemist, artist, writer, astronomer, librarian

in middle school: writer, meteorologist, musician, psychologist

in high school: writer, musician, DJ, newsreporter, psychologist, sociologist

in college (freshman, sophmore): writer, sociologist, college professor... i was a DJ for a while

Now, it's my senior year. I'm getting a B.A. in Sociology with a minor in Communication (and maybe International Studies as well, I'm trying my best). The graduate programs I am looking at are mainly in Sociology, Social Policy, and International Relations. I want to get away from academia for a while and do research for the UN or government. I figure I need to stop yelling at the news every night and actually get out there and do something about our world today.

Well... What did you want to be when you were little.
A Cop, preferably Motorcycle or K9. Trained most of my youth. Could pass the FBI pistol course with a 96% by age 17... with no glasses on. Then reality struck when I went to Uni the first time and was told by Police Recruiting that (because of my eyes) the only way I'd get into LE was to be voted Sheriff of Podunk.

So I went Active duty military (I was Combat Arms in the Natl. Guard )... untill they kicked me out (eyes again) rather than let me reclassify to a Regular Army REMF Intel/TRADOC job.

So I went back to Uni... to study Psycholinguistics (common degree field of PR/Marketing/Political Philosophy) But I'm not well enough connected for the Political Jobs and too old/white/male for the entry-level corporate/firm PR jobs. :headbang:

I'm thinking of going into Bank Robbery. :(

Hmm. Well, I am still growing up, but I am no longer little, and for the past 15 years anytime anyone asked that I usually had about 5 answers. Two that have come up consistently were writer and scientist. I know I want to be a Bikram yoga instructor now... I would still love to be a writer, but I think I am not motivated or inspired enough to scrape even a livable amount of money from it. Science still sounds like it could be very interesting, since in the right field you continue learning every time you go to work. Teacher and actor are the other two things I remember liking recently - I'd need more experience acting, but the English class I intend to take next year focuses on acting/drama for a term. Teacher I came up with because I then I could always return to school and explain things I've learned... but I'm starting to think I might lack the patience to deal with students not interested in the class.

But considering I'm going to college this year, and entering ROTC for the Marines. So I still can go either path.
