Rival Think Tank

As some may know, President Shrub has recently established a Progressive think tank to discuss a range of issues. Well, I don't believe that any one institution should have a monopoly on ideas and ideology. Hence this rival think tank is to be set up.
In order to join:

--Post some details about yourself and 'qualifications' for a post here
--Write an opinionated but factual mini-essay (whatever length) on an issue
you feel passionate about
--Suggest a name for this new think tank
--Notify me of your nation's name on NS
--Finally, outline your political views

The best twenty will be selected. We will also be picking those with differing social, political and economic views in order to foster vital diversity.

Hope you are excited about this project.

What is it you hope to accomplish?

I hope to create a series of debates in which accomplished arguments can be put forward. From there, we may reach consensus on the issue we are faced with. From that point, with our growing credence as an intellectual force, we may petition the NS Parliament (which operates within these forums) to take action on any one of the topics we have debated. With the NS elections approaching, what better time?

To the third poster: sorry. I don't think it's entirely fair for you to dip your toes in both pools, no matter how worthy your views may be. We wish to be independent of President Shrub's think tank, and pooling members is unlikely to aid us in that goal.

Ihatevacations']a regressive think tank?

Well, that's interesting. You see, when the so-called Progressive Think Tank labels itself 'progressive', it could well advocate change so slight that it becomes by nature reactionary and regressive. Wanna join here yourself?

The "Think Tanks" Think Tank? To promote a, let's say, more aggressive and militaristic foreign policy?
Libre Arbitre

I'm 17 years old, a member of my high school debate team, live in Southern Wisconsin and plan to go to college for Classical Studies.

My NS Nation is "Libre Arbitre"

Essay: I strongly support the establishment of a complete free market. History has proven that the more reguation imposed on an economy, the poorer it will perform and the worse off its citizens will be. For instance, the European Union has a more regulated economy than the US, and much higher taxes. As a result, the European economy has about 1/2 the growth rate of the United States and would kill to have any of our economic figures. They are behind the United States in every significant economic category. Indeed, as Adam Smith articulated, the true wealth of nations lies not so much in its citizens' abilities, but in the national government and its facilitating a productive, free economy. This has been proven in East and West Germany. Both nations had about the same indiginous populations, the same culture, and the same traditions. But East Germany had to build the Berlin Wall to keep its citizens from leaving, and had a standard of living about 1/3 of West Germany's. This and may more observations and manifestos such as Hayek's The Road to Serfdom have repeatedly shown the necessity of a free economy to economic vitality.

Suggested Name: The Institute of Free Thought

Political Views: I characterize myself as an extreme Libertarian bordering on Anarcho-capitalist on many issues, although I do believe that the state should be a center of morality in some instances. Although I support Libertarian candidates whenever possible, I default to Republican.

I look forward to the creation of the think tank.

Ah, we shall have much fun debating. i see myself as a moderate, semi- free-market socialist.

I belive that, although Capitalisim can be extremely benoficial in many areas of the economy, some areas are best run by the state. These include Education and Healthcare. I am very much for private participation is such sectors, but I strongly believe that there should definitely be state provided institutions in these areas also.

Education and Healthcare are two examples of sectors that the government needs to provide to the less well off.

England in the centuries preceding the 17th , had no public services whatsoever. Even basic things like roads, the Police and Fire departments etc. had to be payed for. This system made the majority of people much worse off than before.

Part of a mini-essay for you. :p
