I quit my job today

and I couldn't be happier.

My manager is probably going to call tomorrow to ask about the note I left in the back room. I just have to stand firm and not let her convince me to reconsider... I am leaving this terrible job and not going back.

I feel so much better.

You did the right thing, leaving a job you disliked. I stayed at my first job too long, and realized how lousy it was when I packed my desk....

Aspirin, Imodium, Pepto Bismol... you name it, I had it in my desk. Stress headaches and stomach problems were my constant companions until I left.

Good for you, Dakini! :D
Nobody should work at a job they hate. Don't go back if you were unhappy, not for anyone who asks.

There's more than one job out there.

This wasn't even a desk job. It was almost fast food...

I'm going to work at a factory or something until school starts again and then hopefully I should be able to find a job as a TA or a tutor when school starts up again and pay for my food with that money... not to mention that I will have a job that is more related to my field of study than making pizzas and sandwiches is.

Why'd you quit?

I mean specifically. Other than the fact that it was a terrible job - why today?

Why'd you quit?
There were a number of reasons.
For one thing, I didn't like the job that much, the only thing that was actually good were the people I work with. I hated cleaning up after food, dealing with customers being jerks, dealing with my manager always changing my schedule at the last minute and then complaining when I ask for time off that she originally gave me off but then retracted, not to mention the times she complained that I left town on my days off and someone called in sick and I wasn't around to fill in...
I was sick of not being able to go see my family and bf, who live in another city.

I just got tired of the whole thing. I've been reluctant to leave because we've been short staffed, but they hired some new people so I'm taking this opportunity to get the hell out of there.

Good for you!

Life is too short to waste spending hours and hours doing things you despise. (Unless they pay so much the time off is awesome - but I digress).

Anyway, congrats.

Oh, I picked today because the schedules go up on Thursdays and I didn't want my manager to screw up my weekend out of spite. Plus, by doing it today, I don't have to finish up my last week after my vacation.

That's awesome, definitely sounds like a place you're better off without, and it sounds like you have a good plan ahead, too. Good luck! :)

and now you can never use her as a reference!!

I did give two week's notice.

Today wasn't my last day.

It was my last day before breaking the news to my boss, however.

I should quit jobs more often to get praise like this. :D

Sounds familiar - I did the same thing in a different way.

Funny how you and the people you work with are usually just there to do the right thing, but somebody with a god complex and the emotional maturity of a two year old ends up getting stirred in with the mix...

Anyway, thats all to say I think you'll go on to better things, and this move is the beginning of making it a reality. Everyone I know who left a crappy job ended up getting a better one. I never regretted moving on.

Cheers!

I could do that. Why would I though?

If someone tries to give me shit on my last day though, then I'll have some fun. Otherwise, there are many nice customers, so I'm not going to piss them all off.

Yeah, the assholes are going to feel my wrath.

Though with my luck I'll encounter nothing but nice customers.

You never get that lucky. I always come in loaded for bear on my last days at a job and it's like the assholes know or something and none of them ever show up, you don't get to total anybody. It's so unfair.

I know. :(

It's like I keep waiting for the one lady who yelled at me for no reason and then reported me to the managers to come back and start shit again but she doesn't.
