Hmmm, came across this at BBC news.

Japanese develop 'female' android
By David Whitehouse

Professor Ishiguru (r) stresses the importance of appearance
Japanese scientists have unveiled the most human-looking robot yet devised - a "female" android called Repliee Q1.

She has flexible silicone for skin rather than hard plastic, and a number of sensors and motors to allow her to turn and react in a human-like manner.

She can flutter her eyelids and move her hands like a human. She even appears to breathe.

Professor Hiroshi Ishiguru of Osaka University says one day robots could fool us into believing they are human.

Repliee Q1 is not like any robot you will have seen before, at least outside of science-fiction movies.

She is designed to look human and although she can only sit at present, she has 31 actuators in her upper body, powered by a nearby air compressor, programmed to allow her to move like a human.

So what do you think? It's quite realistic, but is this line of research innovative and facinating, or creepy and dangerous? I report, You decide.

And maybe I'm just sick, but I'm wondering what that nerdy japanese guy does with that good looking android when the cameras aren't running...

Wow. I didn't actually think that such human looking robots would exist in my lifetime. *every end-of-the-world-due-to-rampagine-robots-and-cyborgs story runs through my mind in an instant*

Mmmm...expensive sex toys.

Hmmm... looks like a woman except it doesn't talk back? This could be an interesting development... :D

Judging from the attire I would guess deep-sea mining. *nod*

No. I'll explain -

Myrth was(I think he's no longer one) a moderator on this site, and a very popular one at that. Now way before I got here, it became a running joke and longstanding tradition to include the option Myrth in all polls, as a joke option for those who aren't really concerned in giving a real response. They tried using another mod, Melkor, for a thread or two recently, but Myrth is the classic.

No shame needed. There are a few weird traditions(and people) around here. You'll pick em up. And welcome to the board btw.

Didn't it start with a spam thread which included a poll. This was closed by Myrth and he added a final option to the thread, going something like: "This thread should be closed by Myrth" and put 999 votes on it.

Somebody reffered to the thread in one of the threads where the discussion was on whose name should replace Myrth of the moderators

I honestly have no idea. I only saw the replace Myrth thread in passing, and I wasn't around for anything that Myrth might have done to become immortalized like this.
