"The Wholly Ignored"
By William Young

I never saw missiles fly through air
I never saw the blackened sky
Nor knew the cold touch of despair
Nor looked into a suspicious eye

I never chose, nor gave consent
Nor voted for this debate
Watched, I came, watched, I went
Adored only because of hate

A foolish act of lust
As impure as blood
And I was born of a thrust
Anonymous as mud

Oh, all around are those who cower
Believing they should decide
Meanwhile, in some late hour
Other children face real genocide

For I didn't have a face
But they gave me one soon
When the true disgrace
Has a face, yet is faceless
And living in gloom

I never had a name or cried
That central cry "I am"
Yet somehow, I died
Defenseless as a lamb

And many called it murder
And many called it sin
While babies exploded
So America could win

Even if slayed
I am guaranteed to be saved
But can you say that much
For those who are depraved?
On the road to heaven
I'll not need to weather the storm
And it is better to die
Than living wishing you hadn't been born

So, forget me next time you
Drive to church in your car
And pray for those who need it
Those suffering afar

I can’t stand any kind of issue poetry. So, to me, it’s just as self-indulgent as the poem it is responding to.

That one's closer to my own feelings than the first one was, but, in fairness, it's not good peotry.
No offense.
