A NS Ventrilo server

I was thinking about buying a Ventrilo server for NS, but in order to do so I need to have a rough idea as to how many people would actually use it. If you don't know what it is, Ventrilo is a web client that allows you to speak to other people using your computer's microphone, and it could be an amazing tool for our use, provided we do so correctly.
Also, it just so happens that they price server use based on traffic, so I'd need to get an idea as to numbers just to fund it all; if too many people are interested, for example, the cost will become prohibitive.
At this point, I'm pretty much just floating the idea, but I can tell you right now it won't exist in any sort of 'official' capacity, much like the IRC rooms. I'll hash out rules and so forth if/when I decide to get this off the ground.

Oh, and it'd be free. Forgot to mention that. Well, free for you.

In that case I'd love it! :D

Ooh..that definitely sounds cool. If I invest in another mic, I'd prolly use it.
(Also, unrelated to this, there's a post for you on page 23 of the poster awards from me.)

I'd be interested if I was sure that my internet connection would be able to handle Ventrilo; I haven't used it since I moved. I have Direcway sattelite internet service, and the download speeds are generally pretty good, but the upload is horrible.

That'd be great! I'm fully wired for sound on my end...are there any peripherals required to use this besides a microphone? Software to DLd? I think it would prove to be VERY interesting.

Good idea for those interested, but not one for me. One less to worry about.

i said 'no' because there is a better option.
In my oppinion, Team Speak would be much better. Look into that too.

I remember using TeamSpeak in the past, but I remember it having interface problems. Still, that was some time ago...
And yes, you'd have to download client software. I haven't looked into how to distribute this, since I need to figure out the numbers first.
Does this mean I could hear your sultry tones, and dirty talk Melkor the Mod!!!??? Oh I'd be into that for sure...

Actually, it is no longer Teamspeak, it is Teamspeak 2 now. It is relatively new, and they have the big problems fixed.
I'd go for it. I have a mic built into my laptop...:D

Good idea.
I won't use it because my voice sounds horrible on mic.... rasping and hoarse, a lot like a dragon if it could talk, you know? ;)

I have used it on direcway … the lag is … bad (now switched to a wireless solution)

Kinda similar in a way to teamspeak...Sounds fun, I approve, sort of.

You have no idea. My voice is so deep I used to make the speaker in the answering machine rattle at my parents' house.
I've got a better one now, so it doesn't happen anymore, but still. It's fairly ridiculous.
