Understanding Islamism: proposal for a string of threads

I've been here on the forum for some time, debating stuff, and noticed that way too many people say things along the lines that we should understand the terrorists, their logic, their grievances and so on. Curiously, though, most (if not all) of the people saying it don't really want to understand and are not even trying. What they are really after is projecting their own views onto the situation: "if I was one of them, I would also do this and that". This is not understanding. This is pointless self-deception. How many of the people reading this thread actually know what Islamism is, who founded it, where and why, what is its ideological basis? How many people have heard the names of the key personalities of Islamist ideology like Sayed Qutb, Hasan al-Banna, Sayed Ahmad Khan?
If you really want to understand the Islamists, if you really want to know the logic behind their views, you have to actually study its history and ideology. What I am suggesting here is starting a thread, or a string of threads, aimed to study the history of the Islamist movement and ideology and understand- not in the appeacer's interpretation of the word- how their minds work.
Do you feel there is a need for such a thread here in this forum?

"Islamism?"
In this context the proper vernacular would be "Understanding Islam." As an ideology it's referred to singularly.
And no, I don't. Not really.

It would make for interesting debate. I'd participate.

Islam and Islamism are two very different things. One is a centuries old religion, the other is a late 19- early 20 century ideology that relies on Islam as a source of authority, but id distinct from it.
Your question, in fact, further proves the need for what I am proposing.

Personally, I agree with you concerning the excuses people make for terrorists because it compliments their own views.
I only know enough about Islam to know that like every other world religion, when it's taken to the extreme (meaning too seriously), it's dangerous.
Really, that's all I need to know.
I think that your explaination, if correct, sould prove to be enlightening.
Of course, it would also fall into the bullshit category if you try to convince me of the eternal benevolence of the jews (I see you're in Israel).
Both sides are full of it. They're both hiding behind their God and imaginary territorial lines just to hide their hatred.

But I don't think it will be well received.

Count me in. Personally I'm interested in learning about the people who have declared war on us.

Hmm thanks for reminding me. I've started the thread with Sayed Ahmad Khan, but he drew a lot from Waliullah, so I guess I'll have to cover Waliullah next :)

I have no interest in learning about Islam or Islamism or any of that.
I personally wouldn't mind if they kept their lovely religion to themselves and then kindly left us the hell alone.
I had enough when I had Christianity shoved down my throat at school
