It seems the beer companies in the USA are gearing up for a price war! That means those of us who like watery domestic lagers can drink up for less.

Damn I love being an American.

Damnit - not fair!

Here, the LCBO is threatening to strike, which will cut off like 90% of the booze supply in Ontario!

Coors Light/Miller Lite/Bud/Rolling Rock etc are all "good pounding beers". No, none of them are a Stella Artois or Sam Adams.

That said, I personally draw the line at Strohs/Pabst Blue Ribbon/Schaefer. Those are just not okay.

How much does a can of reasonable beer cost in the US these days? In the UK it would work out at about 75-80p for a 500ml can of 4% stuff like Carlsberg. I guess that would work out something like $1.40

About $1-1.50, but I rarely buy one can at at time.

In my favorite pub, Guinness is $3.25 a quart. :)

Can't say, since I refuse to drink canned beer anymore. I can't help it--I'm a full on beer snob, and I proudly admit it. :D

What has the beer price to see with patriotism? ("Damn I love being an American") :p So the great nations of beer in Europe should be proud and even more nationalistic than most in the US because their better and greater variety of beer is cheaper then the piss in the US? :D
Try some of the Belgian beers (over 800 brands for a small country, but forget the Jupiler Lager of worlds major and Belgian brewer Inbev). Or try the great original lager, Budweiser Budvar(no not the fake, but the one from the city of Budweiser in Tchechya) is great to during heat.

Must say that a NYC friend brought me some beer from US "micro breweries"(a lot of EU breweries would be called like that to in the US but they wont change their name in to this commercial term) and I must admit that it tastes well. In some 20 (yeah still lots of work) years time, the US will have a beer that will be drinkable (on the world market and able to compeet with the great Belgian, Tchech, and some German beers.)

Hmmm those great and unique (the only original 6 in the world are in Belgium, forget the newcommer of Holland) Trapist monastery beers from Orval, Westvleteren, Westmalle, Chimay, Rochefort give us a beer from each color and for each season and those great beers like Hoegaerden Grand Cru, Hoegaerden (brewed in the US as "Cellis White" , a copy of the original) Duvel, Rodenbach, and the great Guezes and krieks when they come from traditional brewers...hmm it's a great summer.

While the price of beer here in Japan stays the same (about US$2.75 for a 500ml can). Even worse, due to the man screwing around with his tax system, the price of happoshu (a watery tasting low malt "beer") has just gone up by about 10 yen (to about (US$1.80 for a 500ml can). And "third beer" drinks (http://web-japan.org/trends/science/sci050715.html) are cheap (about US$1.3 for a 500ml can), but taste :(.

Canned Guinness is superior to bottled.
