Queen going green at Windsor Castle

The Queen has been given the go-ahead to help run Windsor Castle on eco-friendly, hydroelectric power.

The plant, which will have four turbines, will be the largest of its kind in the south of England, and will feed power directly to the castle.

"We're delighted that the Queen is taking a lead in the use of green electricity to help tackle global warming," the U.K. environmental group Friends of the Earth said in a statement on Monday.

The group suggested the monarch will lead by example and inspire other, similar power-generation ideas.

"It highlights the massive potential for small scale micro-generation systems within the U.K."

This isn't the first step taken by the Royal Family to promote environmentally friendly policies.

The Queen has a practice of turning off lights at Windsor Castle whenever she thinks they've been left on for no reason.

As well, Buckingham Palace uses energy-saving lightbulbs, and the Duke of Edinburgh has a taxi fuelled by liquid petroleum gas for traveling around London.

Okay, doesn't that sound weirdly similar to... a regular CAR? Every regular car I've heard of runs on liquid petroleum gas. How's that make his ride eco-friendly?

LOL

Well, here in blighty, the duke used to be fond of using coal in his taxis, me ol' duck. This petroleum gas is a step up if I do say so meself.

I love the second last paragraph. Makes her sound so ordinary.

Well I don't know about in England, but in Australian most cars still run on petrol, not that many have made the move to LPG.

A little local linguistic confusion. What you call gas, we call petrol. What we call liquid petroleum gas is in fact liquified butane or propane (gas) - look here (http://www.lpga.co.uk/LPGA.htm) .

I thought all taxis ran on propane...

Hey, I turn off lights when I think they're on for no reason too...I guess I really am a queen.
