With all of this talk about the New England Patriots and thier so called "Great Defense" I would like to begin a disscussion about the Greatest pre-millenium Defense in history.

If you ask me my opinion, I would like to point out my vote. And that is the all powerful 1970's Steel Curtain of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Steelers Defensive Players of the 1970's

"Mean" Joe Greene - #75

Jack Lambert - #58

L.C. Greenwood - #68

Jack Ham - #59

Mike Wagner - #23

Andy Russel - #34

Mel Blount - #47

Dwight White - #78

Ernie Holmes - #63

Glen Edwards - #27

That list includes the most notable Defensive Players of the Steel Curtain form the years 1970-1979.

The 1985 Bears and their revolutionary 46 defense. I believe they allowed the fewest points per game in the modern era.

I agree that the aforementioned Steelers' defense and Bears' defense were excellent...but I have to mention the Broncos' defense of 1977-1979: The Orange Crush:D

The Steelers and Bears came to mind. Can't remember the exact seasons.. but I think it was the 85 Bears and the 74 or 78 Steelers? Steelers probably had it coverd for a few years in the 70's.

The Steel Curtain, the Monsters of the Midway, the Purple People Eaters. Any of the teams that had nicknames for their defense, to be sure. The Fearsome Foursome. Orange Crush. No Name Defense. Of course the 2000 Ravens set loads of records, and the 1990 Giants with LT were unmovable. I could go on and on.

Easy. Johnny Cochrane's defense of O.J. Simpson.
