in case nobody noticed i have been away for 2 weeks, first in Utrecht (near Amsterdam) and then at a friend's near Birmingham... and now i'm back :)
a quick summary of my time away reads as follows:
first week: found local (Utrecht) coffeeshop on first day and got mondo stoned on top grade nederhash. got high for the rest of the week, enjoying the sights and tastes of Amsterdam for a couple of days, as well as a lovely bike ride out into the Dutch countryside with the family there (who also took us to see a play and a carnival in the evenings - thouroughly nice peope!). also enjoyed the fantastic Dutch beers (mmmm tasty!) and got very drunk... often (daily); not to mention trying magic mushrooms on the wednesday night with my mate. philosopher's stones: they were pretty wicked :D
got some lovely photos if anyone's interested in seeing em
second week: after 2 hours sleep and an early start to catch the plane saturday morning, i find myself partying round said friend's girlfriend's house, that night, till roughly 6am, smoking through our (38 inch high) hookah water pipe, getting drunk on beer and cheap vodka, and enjoying my first experience with certain pills ;). this was to be the pattern for the rest of the week, at night, staying up till dawn and beyond (9am was our latest), and getting up again mid-afternoon (6pm latest :p ). daytime (what little there was left) was spent recording drum- then guitar-tracks on my new(ish) laptop using fairly decent software and a pretty good studio hardware set-up. drum kit and marshall stack in one room, mixing desk, laptop and monitor, as well as guitarist(s) in the second room. we managed to get a pretty good sound out of it, although we didn't actually finish any songs (an excuse to go back up there for another week ASAP!)
so there we go: brain slighly fried, pains all over from sleeping drunk in the armchair most nights (better than others passed out on the floor :p ), throat kaned from 2 weeks of solid smoking, and no appitite left after them pills, but god-damn what an awesome fortnight! :fluffle:
so, what did i miss here?

Lessee...Czardas, Colodia and I have been nominated for awards (hey, it's important to me, damn it...I want a shiny!), Czardas's help thread got stickied, various flames/flamers, more religious debates, eh...hell. I think that's it. Oh, yes. Lunatic Goofballs talked about making his own amusement park. I'll let you ponder the legalities of that.

lol, PM, if you get in good with us now, we'll let you have some fancy position when we take over NS...and then, of course, the world.

Yes, but it likely won't last, because at his/her next rule infraction, they'll get a DOS issued.

For any offense, no matter how minor. That's mod justice.

daytime (what little there was left) was spent recording drum- then guitar-tracks on my new(ish) laptop using fairly decent software and a pretty good studio hardware set-up.
On a side note, what kind of Audio interface/software were you using? I'm currently in school for this kinda thing and I'd like to get an idea what other people use. feel free to TG me if you don't want this to become a major part of your thread

so, what did i miss here?I'm in a new incarnation if you've noticed.
I revised extensively the newbie advice thread, link in my siggy, and it's been stickied so we don't have to keep bumping it anymore. ;)
I'm now officially NS's Sarcazm Master according to the thread. If only I could find it.... :(
I'm....I could give you lots of news about myself, but not about NationStates. Sorry. :D
Just kidding, lmao!

what happened to the old Czardas?
and good job on that thread, btw :) if it wasn't locked i'd congradulate you there...

very simple set up: mics went into a bog-standard mixing desk (or tascam 8 track recorder would do), we levelled and eq'ed all the inputs there and outputted to the microphone in/line in on my laptop and a speaker seperatley. this way we recorded the drum tracks with 5 mics as one track, and the guitar tracks in stereo (cos it was a stereo marshall cab..... feeding off a awesome DSL 500w head - god damn it was loud!)
as for the mics and actual brand/type of equipment we were using i can't say cos they were my friend's & i dunno for sure. i do know we had some sennheiser mics, but i think all the ones we had were cardiod or multidirectional and not purpose-made drum mics of any sort..... which would explain why our kick drum sounded so shite :p
as for software we used cheap & cheerful MAGIX Music Maker Deluxe 2005 - it does the job, sounds pretty decent, and is a damn sight easier to use than cubase or cubasis (which i have tried in the past) - and is the best alternative to these pro programs i've found yet. only costs 50 quid! :D
the sound card on my laptop could (should) have been better - i usually use a half decent usb2 external Creative Audigy 2 card which has a good line in function, but i kinda forgot it this week :headbang:
hope that answers your question (& makes some sense). may i ask what stuff you're doing in school? i would have given anything to be able to study music production at my school!

what happened to the old Czardas? My parents managed to get 'Czardas' permabanned from NationStates. I very stupidly turned on the 'Remember me' function, so when they opened the forums page on my computer..... basically, they changed my e-mail, password, etc. so I can't log in any more or even request a new password, as it'd go to their email. :(
I'm not too sorry about losing the uber-postcount, partly because I'll be able to recreate it in a fairly short time. :D
