Al-Qaeda 'destroyed in Pakistan'

Pakistan has destroyed al-Qaeda's ability to operate on its soil, President Pervez Musharraf has said.

"Al-Qaeda does not exist in Pakistan any more," he told reporters in Lahore, after unconfirmed reports Pakistanis were being sought over bombs in Egypt.

"We have shattered and eliminated their command system there," he said. Al-Qaeda's communications system had been reduced to a "courier network".

"Is it possible in this situation that an al-Qaeda man sitting here, no matter who he is, may control things in London, Sharm el-Sheikh, Istanbul or Africa? This is absolutely wrong," the president said.

Freudian slip ?

Confirms my theories that other elements in the IIF like LeT and JeM have now taken over the C&C of AQ apart from just contributing foot soldiers to Osama. Please recall "Al-Qaeda legend ? reality? " thread and "Shehzad Tanweer trained at LeT?" thread.

It's pure propaganda. Pakistan is really under fire; Londen bombers went to pakistan, Sharm al Sheik bombers were pakistani (they say) so what would you say as President of Pakistan?

Did I say anything like that

Define them and define end. ;)

I doubt it! And there are many more terrorist networks. Time to bring out the nukes?

Hmmm. I do recall your other threads - some of the earlier posters may not get your drift. All I can say is that time will tell, and that there will be significant problems if this is true. It surely won't escape the notice of intelligence services, so we'll see.

On another note, I was encouraged by the last sentence in the article:

"On Monday, he promised that those arrested for publishing hate material or misusing mosque loudspeakers would be tried in anti-terrorism courts."

No , I am serious. :D

Define "Al-Qaeda" and define what would be their "end"

As long as the BBC reported it and not Fox, we can rest assured that it is accurate and unbiased reporting at its finest. Right?

Even if it came from Fox its promising. Do I believe it? Not really! I doubt highly that they have been totally destroyed in Pakistan.

However, that last sentence was encouraging. Hopefully, that'll help settle things down but I think it'll escalate things.

Only time will tell.

Good to see another person who recognises good new reporting. News should be to inform, not entertainment.

To entertain is to give favourable and previously perceived opinions

More and more evidences point to that.

Ponder upon the creation of IIF and when and why did Osama come to Afghanistan from Sudan.

The administration won't publicly announce the significance of this since it would raise uncomfortable questions on their policies. Also it is far simple to rally the people against a simple named Al-Qaeda instead of Markaz-ud-Dawa or Lashkar-e-toiba.

By the time somebody reads the big confusing names, half of the American audience would lose interest..lol...

On another note, I was encouraged by the last sentence in the article:

You are too optimistic. Musharraf can do nothing of that sort. The LeT HQ is just 20 odd miles from Lahore and Musharraf could'nt do jacksh1t about that. He will become the next Najibullah and led to the nearest football post if he tries that.

And what would happen if indeed the jihadis are arrested ? Nothing would happen.

Legal systems in the sub-continent are a joke and that of Pakistan is a pathetic joke.

FYI, Omar Sheikh has been sentenced to death two years back. His appeal against the sentence is pending before a higher court, the hearing of which has been adjourned for the 32nd time. When he was served the death sentence, he laughed and said to the reporters that the sentence will never be carried out.

PS : I should have replied to you, but I am still understanding the implications of the nuclear agreements between India and US. Congrats, US has successfully weaned away India from the Iran pipeline. :)

LOL... how hard can it be to destroy an organization that doesn't even exist in the first place? :P

Seriously, 'Al Qaeda' never existed. It was a ficticious terrorist organization invented by the United States and one of their informants, because they needed an illegal organization for bin Laden to belong to, so that they could try him in-absentia for being a member of an illegal organization. :D

<snip>

I am trying for the life of me to understand US policy, even US interests, with Pakistan. It's either as simple as it looks or there's some short-term ineptitude with a long-range plan that I can't discern. For a number of reasons I favor the latter possibility.

You're a good researcher, how about you post some good links as you find them?
