The Best Live Album Ive ever Heard.

So..one of my two favorite things in the world, is music.
Thusly, Ive made an effort to listen, own, and play, as much of it as I can.
I like to think I have pretty ecclectic tastes, and I try very hard not to dismiss any genre of music.

Enough crap.

Live albums, even ones from bands you love, can sometimes be a let-down, due to crappy recording equipment, or the band having an off-night wehn the recording was done, or due to a crappy mixing job.
Usually, live albums can be merely "ok" or downright dissapointing.

Thusly, I submit to you.....what I believe to be the "Best Live Album to Date"

The Who: Live at Leeds.

Superb sound quality, and the performance that was recorded, was one the Who's best.

Im rapidly becoming a bigger Who fan than I used to be, I truly appreciate the way they went balls out at every show.

What are some excellent Live Albums you enjoy?

Those are all pretty good ones.

Although Ravi Shenkar should not be listened to on hallucinagenics......just take my word for it.

I myself, appear on two live albums.

"Live in the parking lot of the Sanford IGA".

and innapropriately titled "Live at the Auburn Hotel."

For me it's got to be either If You Want Blood (You Got It) by AC/DC for the sheer energy captured from the performance or Led Zeppelin's The Song Remains the Same.

Metallica - S&M

The complexities of thrash metal combined with an orchestra in a live environment are truely stunning :) It works pretty well with Metallica's mediocre later material too...

Dream Theater - Live Scenes From New York

Three hours of music, including an entire album performed live, and a practically perfect sound...stunning!

Pink Floyd - Is Anybody Out There?

It's The Wall, but with a bit more bite :)

My second choice would probably be "Live at Pompeii" by Floyd.

I just checked at Amazon - it's from '83. Unfortunately I noticed that they left at least one track off the discs (compared to the double record I own). But it is really great. I actually saw him at that tour and it was absolutely fantastic!

True classic!
I was 15 or so and listened to it on my parents stereo, while they were out. Or so I thought, because when it finished I heard my father say: "Wow, that music has a lot of energy!". He'd listened to the complete B-side :)

Actual Talent. :D

I'd have to go for either The Who mentioned earlier, Iron Maiden Live at Rio, or Or the original G3, with Satriani, Vai and Eric Johnson. Though the one with Malmsteen is cool.
