What is your Favorite PC game?

Pain and Misery

My favorite PC game is Battlefield 1942. My own father is the owning of the number 1 battlefield 1942 server on the planet, so naturally I play a lot. I was an admin, but got the admin rights taken away cause of shit grades, but I will get them back. Anyway, I just wanted to know what everyone else's favorite PC game is. I expect a lot of people to say CS:S, Rise of Nations, or World of Warcraft.

PS. the name of the battlefield1942 server my dad owns is
Wagoogee's Mostly Omaha v1.6 in case you play and ever want to visit it.

Master of Orion II: Battle at Antares....it's old, but I get my digital power trips in all possible forms.

Otherwise it's really HARD to manipulate people on the computer, y'know?

Starcraft.

Battlefield series is a not-so-close second.

Half-Life. Renewed the whole FPS genre, brought a change to games on the whole and was altogether awesome.

Except the jumping puzzles.

I actually have Battlefield 2, and it kicks ass, but not nearly as much as battlefield 1942 does.

Yeah, Empire Earth was massively underrated. My enjoyment of it was somewhat mitigated when I posted a religiously offensive scenario online that got me a couple thousand downloads and two of the four serious threats on my life thus far.

When some mods(aka red crucible) come out, it will be better. Vanilla 1942 kinda sucked.

The VERY first version sucked (you could glitch into anything just by walking into it), the guns sucked, and the graphics were terrible. But of course they came out with patches. You also have to find the best maps that everyone likes and play them. Omaha beach happens to be one of the best out there, and that is the home map of the Wagoogee Servers (we have 8 of them, 3 being battlefield2) Also Desert Combat Kicked ass.

We ALSO modified Omaha and Market Garden to make them a lot more balanced and a lot more fun.

Classics? Age of Empires II and Sim City 2000. Starcraft would qualify there too, until I stopped playing it about a month ago, after nearly 6 years.

Right now, World of Warcraft and Hearts of Iron 2 would have to be my favourites.

Games I played quite a lot are The Settlers (also know as Serf City in the USA), Age of Empires, Civ3 and Baldur's Gate 2. Gothic (especially I) was not bad, either.
And I would have loved Etherlords2, but the AI sucked.

Rome Total War or The Elder Scrolls: Morrowind.

RTW is just brilliant (it has elephants and flamable pigs), Morrowind gave you a real sense of freedom and:
-you didn't have to save the island if you don't want to, you could just wander around killing random farmers and looting their houses.
-you don't get wild animals carrying gold and weapons, but you can harvest their bodies for ingredients.
-It's a huge game.
-Some of the monsters looked quite cuddly. :)

My only complaints are the under-powered magic and the 'cliff racers' (Morrowind players will know what Im talking about).

UFO: enemy unknown is simply the best PC game ever made. The only bad thing about the game I can think of is how easily you get addicted. I decided to take a break when I started to wait for the flashing red "enemy in sight"-mark to appear in my normal life.
It's really creepy to see a pair of gleaming sectoid eyes on a nighttime mission just when you don't have enough action points left to shoot.

Oh yeah, beneath a steel sky is also great! I love the twisted humour, especially when you have to sell your testicles to the doctor so that he installs a schriebmann-port(the same brain-plug they copied in Matrix) in your head.

Well, the CIV series are number one with me, tied with Elderscrolls series (morrowind). Next come the battlefield series but I think BF2 isn't as good as Vietnam or 1942. Vietcong also comes close.

Mine are, in rough order:

--Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War: I beta tested this in mid 2004 and have been playing almost nonstop ever since. I've got over 1000 online games under my belt, and I'm ridiculously badass with Space Marines. Anyone wanting to get beaten like a little bitch at DoW feel free to TM me anytime.

--Return to Castle Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory: Got it when it came out, stopped when I got addicted to NS, then just remembered about it a couple weeks ago and re-downloaded it. If you like shooters give it a shot: it's all multiplayer and its all free.

--Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Academy: Plot is shit, gameplay is fantastic. This game never gets old.

--Doom3: My only single player shooter at the moment aside from the not-too-often-played SP variant of Castle Wolfenstein. It has its strengths I suppose, but there are a few noticable gameplay deficiencies that I had thought ID was aware of.

I'm voting for Starcraft and the Civilization games. My wife hated video games before I introduced those to her, and I've been playing Civilization since '97 (civ2 now civ3) and Starcraft since '99. What's good about them is that I can play them on my Mac and they are still as much fun as they were when they first came out. I would also like to give an honourable mention to Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri. The expansion stunk but the original game was brilliant and I still think about the futuristic technology tree sometimes. Sid is still way ahead of his time (can't wait for Civ4!!!!)

I don't think this applies anymore because I don't play it anymore, but, I used to absolutely love Black & White. I think because at the time it was so original.

But now, I suppose it would have to be Civ 3, Sim City 4, Rome:Total War and (slightly ashamed) Tropico. I'm sorry, but it is fantastic.

Erm, I like MMORPG's(like World of Warcraft and Final Fantasy XI, mostly the latter though). My favorite PC game of all time though? Toughie....

I guess StarCraft. I played it for HOURS upon HOURS, and when I'd beaten the campaigns I'd go over battle.net and started openin cans of whoop-ass on people. When I couldn't access the internet, I would make scenarios where I'd have about 1,000 vs 1,000 (it's possible) and have massive gore fests.

Of course, eventually I just stopped playing. New games had come, and once I had realised most of them weren't even half as good as Starcraft, I had lost my l33t sk1lz. Sure, I can still play ok, but nowhere near as good as I could before.
