Heh, I was watching something about that jew bastard who owns the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Malcolm Glazer, purchasing Manchester United and pissing off the entire country of England by turning it into some moneymaking corporate enterprise. Turns out it was already the highest valued sports franchise in the entire world; can't believe it's higher than the Yankees. Rest of the world is crazy bout that game, man. Like the game myself, played it in rec league a long time (center halfback, was damn good if I may say so), but it's still hard to grasp the worldwide fanaticism from an American perspective. World Cup is the shit, but otherwise, the scoring is just way too low. I can appreciate the chess match strategy, and low scores make the rare goals all the more special, but it still drags out at times, like baseball.

And punts, KICKoff, not nearly as much, but who cares? It's just semantics, man.
By the way, my team: Oregon Ducks. They may be the second-worst team in the Pac-10, but it's my Uni's team. If you don't think college ball counts, then I also like the BC Lions. If you don't think Canadian counts, I don't follow NFL, but I like to see the 49ers do well. And if you don't think American counts, then wise up: It's called soccer. It's a boring-ass game to watch. Just deal with it. The sooner you do, the sooner you can move on with your lives.

and on the gridiron/soccer (which one is football?) debate, they both are. i think football was originally named because they're games you play on your feet rather than on horseback etc. remember, we're talking a long time ago! football's rules were codified sometime in the mid-1800's.

Well considerin, when they came to Ibrox (i've got a season ticket there) they were flying Irish Flags, Palistinian Flags and that flag with the guy standing with a kinda beret hat with a red star on it , well him agianst a red backround.

I'd guess it was the Irish team... cause there are no Scottish flags, when I was at Celtic Park on sunday for Leeds vs Cletic there were even Irish flags mounted on top of the main stand... and they're chairman say's they have nothin to do with catholic and Irish beliefs whilst he has somoene mount these flag.. ha what a wanker...

Well on the Celtic thing, If you look back to when I created the thread I support Leeds awell, so thats why I went... and on the evidence I saw Celtic well suck this season and Leeds will win the championship... thats sounds very biased but its my true opinion.

And Cahill's contract runs out in 2008 but when players reject contracts it usually means they want to leave... or there agent is a greedy twat... Like the Gerrard situation, he rejected a contract and although he still had two years on his contract, he almost went to Chelsea...

Yep, I dind't notice that. Leeds might actually do well this season. It's a real shame what happened to them a couple of seasons ago. Hope they'll get back on their feet soon enough.

And yes, I think too that often it is the agent that is greedy, not the player. I mean does any player care if they get 100k a week or 120k a week? I know I wouldn't. I think most of them players just want to play good footy in a good team.

Yeah I thoght that showed through in the Gerrard thing when he wanted to stay... but then you look at the other end of the scale and you see the Jeudus dick Rio Ferdinand, I know I hate him from the whole Leeds to Man U thing but I think he is just greedy and that's why he won't sign a new deal... they agent does'nt have anything to do with that one.

The strange thing is I think Liverpool will come second to Chelsea this season even with all the great signings Liverpool have made and the great confidence boost of beating Chelsea in the Champions League even though you attacked for three minutes and then sat back... Gerrard (Useless at everton, useless at your team, flaps more than a drowning seagul)
Eaden (33 years old, and is starting to show it, but should still do well at this level)
Breaken (He is a good defender, but hes not too good on the ball)
Padula (Very decent player for L1)

Bopp (Ok, but last season wasn't very good at all, but his passing is meant to be pretty decent)
Holt (see eaden, but in this case a lot tougher)
Perch (promising but promise doesn't always amount to much)
Commons (if he is as good as you say he will be gone sooner or later, but having seen them twice i think he is a little overrated, esp coming back to cover)

Lester (failed at championship level, might do well here, but thats not certain)
Johnno/Taylor/Dobie (varying talents between the 3 of them, dobie is pretty good though)

tbh, i think you will get play offs, but if your not consistant you will get screwed at this level, as my team found out.

Ricketts (Jamaican International, showed class against brazil, questions about his coming to crosses, but excellent otherwise)

Holloway (Good in the tackle, but comes in too much and has a habit of not keeping it simple)
Weatherall (Captain, our organiser and general legend, not too quick but his reading of the game is excellent)
Bower (our player of the year and a damned good defender, wanted by prem clubs, but needs another year to prove himself more)
Emanuel (decent young left back, needs to put in some stronger tackles, but good going forward)

Bridge-Wilkinson (Class act in midfield, can dribble, cross and dictate the play, championship class, maybe lacking a little strength)
Tom Kearney (New stewart mcCall, injury prone though, but still very very good, no wonder our season lost its momentum once he was injured)
Steven Schumacher (Everton made a mistake releasing this guy, box to box midfielder, good on the ball and a decent range of passing, maybe a little lightweight right now, but that can change)
Bobby Petta/Morrison (If either can be bothered excellent on their day, but need to learn consistancy before anything else)

Windass (Top scorer in the league last season discounting penalties/joint counting them, old but still a class above in the league)
Cadamateri (Injury prone, but when he's fit, he is championship class)

Gerrard (Useless at everton, useless at your team, flaps more than a drowning seagul)
Player of the season last season for us-was incredable, the reasopnw hy we wern't down last year earlier

Eaden (33 years old, and is starting to show it, but should still do well at this level)
Will be okay for 2/3 years at this level

Breaken (He is a good defender, but hes not too good on the ball)
Defenders defend, he dosn't need to be good the ball

Padula (Very decent player for L1)
Agreed

Bopp (Ok, but last season wasn't very good at all, but his passing is meant to be pretty decent)
great player, never given a chance, his weakness was his lack of physical toughness but he's bulked up now, good technically, he might be out mucled at this level

Holt (see eaden, but in this case a lot tougher)Never seen him play

Perch (promising but promise doesn't always amount to much) Indeed but at his age (18) he's already got a first team season under his belt and was great then, if he can do it in the championship, why not up here.

Commons (if he is as good as you say he will be gone sooner or later, but having seen them twice i think he is a little overrated, esp coming back to cover)
Great going forward, he's creative and can manufacture megic, with experience behind him he'll be good.

Lester (failed at championship level, might do well here, but thats not certain) I wouldn't say failed, but he'll do well here I think

Johnno/Taylor/Dobie (varying talents between the 3 of them, dobie is pretty good though)
Johnno will be eletric at this level if he can get onf orm, Dobie hasn't done much up here, Taylor is getting on a bit but provides a airial threat, Weir-Daveys one to watch as well, great young lad.

My view on Breadford is playoffs as well. Being a Yorkshireman myself and having about 90% of my freinds being Bradford fans that one awaited game for me. i loved it last time at your place (2-1 to us, reamber you led from about 10 mins to the 80th and we hit back.) nice atmosphere. Steve Mclaren is a very good manager actually, so good that he is tipped to be next England manager, it must have been an off day for him and his team. While WBA only just survived relagation last year, so losing 5-0 to Benfica, a team of European experience, is not that bad a result.
Canada6

I think perhaps McLaren's style might be effective for the Premier League but not for International Competitions. They were pounded by Sporting last year in the UEFA cup and they were worthless yesterday.

I don't think he's the man for the Job. If the English FA was smart they would do their best to convince Mourinho for the Job. I doubt he that would accept though.

well Benfica is arguably the #2 team in Portugal, and West Brom is bottom-table in the Prem.

If you matched the Portuguese league and the Prem in head-to-head match-ups, home-and-away, like this:

Chelsea vs. Porto
Man U vs. Benfica
Arsenal vs. Sporting

etc... all the way down both leagues until the bottom-feeders are playing each other

I bet the Prem would come out quite a bit ahead.
Frangland
31-07-2005, 00:19
actually, a good match-up would be Serie A vs. the Prem:

AC Milan vs. Chelsea
Juventus vs. Man U
Inter vs. Arsenal
Roma (in a good year) vs. Liverpool
Udinese vs. Everton

Hey don't get me wrong. I for one consider the Premier league to be the most exciting football league to watch on the planet. Most portuguese sides would be way over their head if they matched up with English sides. that just adds to my astonishment over recent results.

Arena football team Swashbucklers! You haven't heard of them because they're local or they haven't beaten your American arena football team:D They made it to the finals with only, about, three losses during the whole last season.

As for soccor, barley watch it but I'd say Mexico due to the recent loss. Poor guys only had 3 points while the other team had twenty something :(

plus it does wind up the celtic fans without being sectarian....

I came up witha great Idea today for when Celtic come to Ibrox... you know the MacDonalds flags.... The Blue order are gonna get as many of them as we can can and hand them out on the day of the match.... I'm so proud of that....

Ah Celtic jokes...These are quite good.... I copied them off a website I found in school...

Quick Facts

Nickname: The Tic. Supporters are Tims.

Manager: Martin O'Neill.

Ground: Celtic Park or Parkhead or Paradise or Septik

Key Players: Chris Sutton, Bobo Balde ( BoboCop ), Stan Petrov

Interesting: First British side to win European Cup ( Lisbon Lions ). First to do 9 in a row. Ex players include Kenny Dalglish, Maurice Johnstone. Board once known for biscuit tin mentality.

Q: If you see a Celtic fan on a bicycle, why should you never swerve and hit him?
A: You don't want to damage your bike, do you?

It's with great sadness that I report Celtic Park was broken into last night. The entire contents of the trophy room were stolen. Strathclyde police are believed to be looking for a man with a green carpet.

Q: What would you call 2 Sellik fans going over a cliff in a green Renualt Espace?
A: A complete waste of space. You could have squeezed 8 of them into one of those.

An old man hands over 50 quid to the turnstyle operator at Celtic Park
Man: Two please.
Turnstyle Operator: Sir, will that be Defenders or Strikers?

Parkhead directors called an urgent meeting last night. It's alleged they are considering the replacement of John Barnes with Steven Hendry. When asked why, they replied: "we don't just need the points now, we need snookers!"

Harald Brattbakk's wife wanted him locked up - she had had enough of the eejit.
So she went to the police and told them: "Please Help, my husband has been hitting me."
The Police gave sound advice: "Ma'm, don't worry. Just carry a goalpost in each hand - I guarantee he'll never hit you."

There's a rumour that after the NTL sponsorship expires, Celtic have lined up a new sponsor - Tampax.
The board thought it was an appropriate change as the club is going through a very bad period.

Q: What's the difference between a Tim and a bucket of crap?
A: A: The bucket...

I'm glad to report that a new green and white Oxo Cube will be introduced early next year. It will be called "Laughing Stock".

Q: What do you call a Tim in Europe after Xmas?
A: A tourist...

How do you get a one armed Irish Celtic fan down from a tree? ... wave at him...

Q: Why did the Tic fan cross the road?
A: Cos Sutton was on shooting practice.

Q: How do you keep a Sellik fan busy?
A: Put him in a round room and tell him to sit in the corner.

Q: Whats Green, White and funny?
A: A Celtic bus going over a cliff

Q: Two Celtic fans jump off a cliff, wich one hits the ground first.
A: Who gives a FUCK

Q: How do you stop a tim from drowning.
A: Take you're foot off his head.

Enjoy....

Key Players: Lampard... Makalele

Every time Big Roger attends a Chelsea game he books 2 seats.
One to sit in, the other to throw when the fightin starts.

Two blokes were walking through a cemetery when they happened upon a tombstone that read:
"Here lies John Sweeney, a good man and a Chelsea fan."
So, one of them asked the other: "When the hell did they start putting two people in one grave?"

Q. Two Chelsea fans jump off a cliff. Which one hits the ground first?.
A. Who gives a F**K!

Q: What do you get when you cross a Chelsea Fan with a pig?
A: I don't know, there are some things a pig just won't do.

Q: What do you call a Chelsea fan on the moon?
A: A Problem.

Q: What do you call 100 Chelsea fans on the moon?
A: An even bigger problem.

Q: What do you call all the Chelsea fans on the moon?
A: Problem solved

Q: How do you define 144 Chelsea fans
A: Gross Stupidity

Q: Why did Chelsea go on the stock exchange?
A: To prove that crap can float.

Q: What is the difference between Gianfranco Zola and a mini?
A: A mini can only carry three passengers.

Q. Why do Chelsea fans whistle whilst sitting on the toilet?
A. So they know which end to wipe!

I've heard that Stamford Park has arguably the best pitch in the Premiership. Well...not entirely suprising considering all the shit that has been on there.

Q: What's the difference between a Chelsea supporter and an Onion?
A: No one cries when you chop up a Chelsea fan!

Q: What do Chelsea keepers and SInger Michael Michael Jackson both have in common?
A: Both wear gloves for no apparent reason.

Q: What does Joes Mauriho say when Chelsea score?
A: Fantastic. Now let us try to get goal at other end of pitch.

Boxing is cool.
Female beach volley ball is VERY cool. (Hell they probably play a good game too)

But soccer is just to difficult to get into. The game is simple enough, but it takes ages to see some real action.

I've never found soccer exciting at all. To be honest I'd rather watch paint dry. But those of you who do like it obviously see something in it that I don't, so whatever.

American/Canadian football is more fun to watch or play, in my opinion. Although I have nothing against rubgy or Aussie Rules football.

US 'football' is one of the worst sports I've had the displeasure of watching. In essence, it's rugby (which is a great sport) but with body armour (panzies) and far simpler.

And anyone that hasnt been to a football match is missing out, big time. I went to the Stoke v Sheff Wed match, first game of this season. We totally out sung the Potters, it was such a great atmosphere, and also a special mention was 4700 Sheff Wed fans shouting 'You fat b*stard' when the Stoke player was sent off, so much fun
