I don't do paintball, and though I started my shooting career at age 7 with a slingshot Dad made me, I don't currently own one. I'm an active shooter of all else (except blowguns - other).

England's full of pussies who think the government knows best. To this end; I have no idea how or even if I can go about shooting contests.

When I move to the US I'll probably live at a firing range.

Make sure you look me up if you're passing through - I'm in northern NY. Got a great range and lots of guns. Can get a lot of shooting into a short period of time.

You know, if you want such a manly challenge you can do archery or paintball just fine...

Yeah, I love shooting Sports....shooting Sports Casters that is. And the occasional team owner and even a plaeyr or three. Watch out Gary Bettman, I've got you in my sights!

Paintball. I play it at least a few times a year.

I also engage in pie fights. My aim with a well-balanced blueberry pie is probably Olympic Gold Medal calibre. :D

Sounds like you're just too lazy to go out and shoot. People go out shooting in England every day. England is not a gun free country, thousands of people still have guns and go shooting.

Pistols, rifles, and shotguns! :)

It's fun watching paper suddenly develop a hole right where you intended it to, or watch a chunk of clay explode as it sails across the sky.

I'm not a hunter, so that's about all I see with firearms. :) It's all I ever hope to see--I could hunt if I had to, but until I actually HAVE to, it's not going to happen. Don't get me wrong--I've nothing against hunters. They serve a need (especially in Wisconsin!) where the natural predators have been whittled down to numbers too low to keep the deer herds in check. If there aren't hunters, deer starve, more deer are around to cause accidents on roadways, etc.

And I hope I NEVER have to see a hole develop in a person. But, again, if I have to, to defend lives....I can.

Rifle. AK-47 variant to be exact. Bought mine during the assault weapon ban, so I need to upgrade to the new ones now that it's over.

Archery is a real sport, despite the continued corruption of it by the Olympics, but it's not something I personally am terribly interested it (Though as I recognize the easy availability of the materials it would I confess be wise to train.).

Paintballing is meh at best.

Kradlumania - I know of no gun clubs nearby. Furthermore it's not a high enough priority for me to invest in it exclusively for entertainment/competition purposes, given my current financial situation. When I am legally permitted to carry firearms for self defense, I will consider it worth investing as there are other, more important reasons to ensure I am capable.

Sabbatis - thanks for the offer =D By the way, do you or anyone else know of what US laws there are regarding non-US residents owning/using guns? Would I be able to go to a range and shoot, for example? Would gun ownership only be after naturalization, or would a green card suffice? TIA. Or more fairly, does anyone know where I can get this info? (I'll likely be living in either Alabama or Missouri.)

Curses. I'm getting myself head-deep into the wonderful world of guns the second I become 18....3 years from now. :(

And paintballing is too expensive.

I go paintballing a few times every year, and to those who haven't been, I strongly suggest you go. It's incredible - violent, painful, muddy and confusing - the best thing short of invading a city and killing all the inhabitants.

I haven't done any other shooting except for BBs, because this is England and I don't particularly feel the need to shoot rabbits or plates.

Your welcome, it's a genuine offer - schedule permitting. There are Federal, State, and local gun regulation issues - there is no Federal issue shooting firearms at any club except for convicted felons. Some localities (NY State) won't let you shoot (not just own) a pistol without a license. Shooting at a club should not be a problem.

So it depends. Most places, and I would expect your states, which are largely pro-hunting and pro-gun, make shooting easy. As far as I know non-resident hunting licenses are sold to green card holders, ergo it should be possible to own a firearm. Purchasing a gun from a dealer requires an FBI check so that might cut you out - but private transfer is likely. Best check it out.

Try the BATF and state Conservation Dept. websites. The states can mail you hunting regulations if they're not on the web and be able to answer your questions. I'll keep my eyes open and TG if I see anything pertinent.

I shoot my mouth off alot, does that count? :D

I used to shoot air pistols and air rifles (I live in the UK) but I think I outgrew it. It became uninteresting, shooting at targets and game.

Many thanks to you, I'll look into those sources and see what I can dig up. I do rather hope I will be allowed to purchase and own firearms when I move there, but at least I will be able to ensure my girlfriend and our female friends are somewhat protected if I can advise them about laws and suchlike.

If I'm ever in the area, I'll see if I can contact you. It'd be very beneficial to learn about guns from someone who really knows about and respects them.

Yes...Because you can tell so much about someone by their sn. I thought Eutrusca was a mid-20's woman with an out of control case of PMS. (you know, ends in "a," it has the feminine ring to it, and he was an "uber spamgirl" at the time) Turns out that is not the case. Your intolerance is stunning here.

I play paintball only a few times a year, though I do own a Tippman 98 mod'd out into sniper (yes, I use the flatline. no, I don't play speedball, nor indoors).

I like my (.45) M1911 micro-compact, though I've been trying to get into handgun hunting with my .22 revolver.

Skeet is fun. Deer is tasty. ;)

Anyone have any experience with the M-14? I fired one for awhile, and was thinking about getting one. I may get my membership in a rod & gun club through in the next few years... (darned waiting lists!!)

I shoot as often as I can. Especially military surplus bolt action rifles. It is great to get a *new* rifle for $80.00 -> $200.00, plus it is the only way my wife lets me do it!

I have a 1911A1, my first firearm purchase, a .22 conversion for it, which is fantastic fun, an Indian Ishapore (Lee-enfield) in 7.62 NATO, and FN FAL, again in 7.62 NATO, a Swiss K31 in 7.5 Swiss, a Glock 19 9mm, a Yugo SKS in 7.62x39, and a Mosin M44 carbine in 7.62x54R. Great fun, surplus ammo is available and relatively inexpensive for all of the bolt guns.
If you want to get a good first rifle, check out the Czech VZ 24 in 7.92x57 Mauser. It is essentially the German KAR98, and ammo is dirt cheap. My dad bought a case of 700 Greek rounds for it for $36.00! Of course, that old ammo is corrosive and requires you to pour boiling water down your bore or clean it with ammonia, but it is very inexpensive to shoot and a whole lotta fun!

Technically, they already have that with the insta-background check. Or at least they know that you're buying.

Besides, with Carnivore out there, you don't think they don't already know?

Yes and no. In Kansas, you can purchase from a private party without registering the weapon. So, I may have more than I say, I may have less. But it does keep them all guessing! Anyhow, they are all a blast to shoot, especially when the targets react, like jack o' lanterns, beer cans, stumps, rock piles, etc.

Same here in Wisconsin--it's just tough to get a new firearm without having to go through some sort of FFL here. :(

Unfortunately, I live in the Southern "civilized" part of the state (how I hate that description by the erudites in Madison and Milwaukee), where it's a bit tougher on gun owners to be able to shoot anything but paper or clay. You have to generally find some private land to hit some of the more original targets.
