OMG this just in!! India's ruling classes have never been descended from native Indians (as in from that region)!! The Aryans happen to be the tribe who took over preHindu India. or some old type India, before it got civilized in any way. my history's rusty

Queen Elizabeth is a patrilineal descendant, through Victoria's father, of the German princely house of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha (Sachsen-Coburg-Gotha). Through Victoria (as well as several other of her great-great-grandparents), she is descended from many English monarchs extending back to the House of Wessex in the 7th century, and from the Scottish royal house, the House of Stuart, which can be traced back to the 9th century. She is related to the heads of most other ruling European royal houses and the former Hohenzollern royal houses of Germany and Romania. Through her great-grandmother Queen Alexandra she is descended from the Danish royal house Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg, a line of the North German house of Oldenburg, one of the oldest in Europe.
Seems like she's just like all the other European monarchs - inbred within the royal lines. no marriage to anyone outside of the ruling class until this recent century. Definitely, technically, Old News, by hundreds of years.

So, how is that news in any way? They changed their name to "Windsor" only during WW II, as far as I know.
Btw, they are no special case there... the Spanish Royals were Austrians to begin with, and the French Royalty was closely related to German nobility. They all intermarried permanently throughout the centuries, so it's just fair to say that the royal families are the first full-blood Europeans ;)

In my view, if they were born and bred here, they are British.
Saying that they have German "blood" really gets to me. We are all immigrants from East Africa orginally, why does it matter to people so much?

Well, of course they're German. You mean you really didn't know?
Sachsen-Cobourg-Gotha. That's their real name. It was changed to Windsor by George V, due to anti-German sentiments in England (understandably, during WWI). George borrowed the idea from his cousin, Prince Louis Von Battenberg, who had his family name changed to Mountbatten. As in Lord Mountbatten of WWII fame, last Viceroy of India, who oversaw the creation of the modern states of India & Pakistan, mentor to Prince Charles, who was finally (ignobly) murdered by an exploding IRA bomb in 1979.
Sorry, I just thought most people knew this stuff.
