Cinder blocks were found on the roof-tops of several downtown buildings lining the pride parade route in my city a few years back. Apparently, some guys from the Northern Alliance were busted the day of the parade. They intended to push them off the roofs during the parade. I march in the parade. That's because that shadow isn't really much of a shadow. It's really just the light reflecting differently off of that part of the flag because of how it is sitting (not perfectly flat).

Don't believe me? Take a sheet with stripes on it, lay it out (similar to the flag in the image), take a picture with a good quality camera and you'll see similar lighting effects.

The quality on this crop is bad (because I keep saving as jpg), but look on the original image in the three areas I circled (the one under foot is the one already brought into question) and notice that the coloration of the flag looks kind of the same in all those spots...this is what I'm talking about with the way the flag is laying....

The only part that looks photoshopped to me is the middle of the sign. The bottom part of the sign looks like they painted over the letter cutouts. You can see the streaks in the paint. It's a lot more difficult to get black letters onto the sign like in the middle. The sign is facing to the camera's left and the girl's right, but the word in the middle part is facing directly toward the camera

It's her protective freedom fence. It extends all around her and behind the camera. Some trees are behind that. Her shadow extends behind her. I'd guess her picture was taken in the early morning. (The clover doesn't look trampled and covered with crap, so it's probably before their rally, so she's facing ... maybe ENE. I could be wrong of course, in which case it'd be the evening. Phelps, rally of one; no hating.) The picture isn't staged because she's not really paying attention to where she is. She was probably told to move into the light so the sign wouldn't be as dark, since that's what the picture taker is concerned about. The blue part of the sign seems glossy, as it has a slight reflection of her shirt in it, so it wasn't photoshopped, and the edges around her hand holding on to the sign would be sharper if they were shopped in. Not to mention the difficulty of matching her skintone and the lighting. That'd take a pretty sharp eye.

That's exactly what I thought when I saw it.

However, having seen some recent protests about the new gay marriage legislation, where young children were holding signs saying things like, "God hates fags" (oh how original :rolleyes: ) it would be just as likely that the photo is real.

Frankly, regardless of your politics, having children hold up slogans they don't understand, to me, is disgusting. Sure, take them along to protests (as long as you know they are going to be safe), but let them have the freedom to make up their own minds on the subject and don't assign them a viewpoint.

Honestly, this is pathetic. Sure we have free speech, but people like her pushes it over the limit. You can protest your government all you want, fine by me, but when you get to the point of insulting and degrading the very nation that gives you the right to do that, you're just being an ingrate. She should, instead, be praising her nation for allowing her to disagree. Rather, she is being a blind buffoon and insulting it. We should have her try living in a third-world nation where the dictator could have her shot for that, where disagreeing with the government isn't a right. The whole God hates fags thing is the brain child of Fred Phelps, a former civil rights (!?!?!??!?!) attorney who was disbarred. He lives and preaches his message of idiocy in Topeka, KS, where I was born. Now, suprisingly, the very conservative, mostly anti-gay marriage Kansasans are extremely embarrassed at him, and think he is a total loon. Everyone here pretty much ignores him, but they do get out with thier kids and signs and protest at Gage park quite often. There is a hilarious shirt for sale out here that has a lightning bolt hitting a guy with a sign, and the caption says 'God doesn't hate anyone, but he isn't very fond of Fred.' Anyway, he and his family live in this wierd compound, except for one kid who basically told his fmaily to go fuck themselves and moved to Colorado. My dad went to law school with two of the kids, and while he never hung out with them, said that they were very polite and really quiet.

Even if its photshopped, I've seen things just like it, when UNT did the Laramie Project a few years ago.

It's stupid. And sad. Look at her, how apathetic she seems. Actually no it isn't a conservative group at all. They are hard core democrats supporting Gore, Clinton and Kerry. Conservatives will have nothing to do with him, nor will the Baptists or any other church they have tried to be affiliated with.
Fred Phelps runs a cult that consists of about 25 of his family members and 1 or 2 people that married into the family. The family consists of a bunch of con artists and extortionists and about half of them have law degrees that they never earned but successfully sued to get under discrimination laws and affirmative action clauses. They hate everyone, but gays get most of the attention because that is what the media pays attention to, and it gets them more attention than the other people they hate, including churchs. This family is without a doubt the most offensive group of people that have ever lived, and proud of it.

It reads somewhat like a horror story, but it is a true accounting of them as told mostly by one of his sons that fled for his life. The cult is mostly run by his daughter, whom I had the honored distinction of coining her nickname, "Mad Maggie" while she worked for the KDOC. She is every bit the nutcase her father is, and possibly even more so.
