Internet explorer help anyone?

I've spent most of the afternoon trying to delete a trojan in my computer. I started the PC in safe mode and ran Norton.
Norton couldn't delete the infected file, so I quarantined it.
After restarting in normal mode clicking internet explorer doesn't take me to my homepage. Instead it says "Page cannot be displayed" and "Cannot find server" .
I can still connect to the internet by using the "run" command in the start menu.
Does anyone know what might be going on?
Please don't tell me to ditch Internet Explorer because this is a work computer and I'm not really supposed to change it around too much.

Piddle around and manually delete the file yourself.

He might get that annoying bugger message that says that the file is in use and can't be deleted.
I hate that. Impossible to deal with viruses with that.

Thanks, but the file isn't the problem, internet explorer's refusal to work is.

Then get the management to switch to Mozilla Firefox. Tell them it's free.

make sure your homepage hasn't been changed. If you can't change the computer around too much, can't help you. I can suggest using Microsoft anti-spyware and ad-aware +spybot s&d and spyware blaster's page and cookie blockers. cleaning out temp files cant hurt either
Then get the management to switch to Mozilla Firefox. Tell them it's free.Lol, just what I was about to say! :D

I agree,
ditch IE and go for Firefox
if you can't get rid of it, I'd say:
A: You are screwed
B: You could do like a system restore...
C: Google for BartPE and look through the information.
-Follow the instructions and create a version that has Ad-Aware.
-This usually works, but I'm too tired to explain it all rite now

Thanks for the advice folks, but it turns out it's not a problem with internet explorer. The problem was that my homepage is MSN.com and MSN seems to be screwed up. Just confirmed that fact with one of my coworkers. False alarm. Sorry.
Thanks for the help anyway.

There are no stupid questions, only stupid people who think IE is broken when MSN is just acting up.
