I think we're all morons to some extent, some are just more moronic than others.

The person who wrote this stupid thread is the only moron. I calculate that to be 0.0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001%

What are your thoughts?
Here in the USA, 1.9%.

Oh wait, sorry, I thought you said "What percent of the worlds people are Mormons?"

Carry on then.

A lot of people. Lots and lots of people. However, I am a high-school student with abilities that are far above average so my view on the moron population may be skewed by the fact that most high-schoolers are complete and total morons.

What he said. I recommend studying hard and getting into an Ivy League school, so that the proportion of moroness is unchanged.
Going from a top quality high school to a simply higher-end state school was a bad move. :headbang:

I'd have to say less than 10% are total morons...if you can operate a car and not crash every day, you must have SOME intelligence.

I did not think it would get any better. Only that people would have to or try to hide their idiocy better.

I am not sure if I would get into Ivy. I have good grades, classes, SATs, ACTs, PSATs(I am not sure if they care or not about National Merit), I just hate helping people and do not volunteer my time very much.

In that case, just become an Objectivist. Then you have a reason to call EVERYONE a moron. :D

I went to a state school for undergrad and a small private school for my law degree, and i'm doing great.

besides, ivy league schools really just give you connections--which is very helpful, don't get me wrong. but you're not learning any more than anywhere else. plus some people are impressed by a school name, but those people fall under my "moron" percentage anyway. besides, a significant portion of the people who go to those schools get in because their daddy is someone rich or powerful-- George W. and John Kerry both had extremely mediocre academic records, but both got into Yale. There are plenty of others attending who are in the same situation. So there'ya go.

By the way, helping people is very rewarding. You wouldn't regret it.

Well, since I live in America, I'm surrounded by morons, so I'd say somewhere around 90%. Morons being people subject to various forms of propaganda like FOX News, MTV, VH1 and all those other "pop" shows. But since this encompasses the entire world, which I deem to be less moronic, it might be down to around 60%.

I'd say that the main advantage of going to a really good school is that it tends to be a lot easier to find non-morons to hang out with. There are morons at any school, of course (generally speaking, anyone at Yale with a Roman numeral after their name isn't there because of their SAT scores), but there are fewer morons proportionately at the Ivys and the Little Ivys then there are at state schools.

Oh, and I would have voted 100%, had that been an option. I'm pretty sure everyone's got at least a moronic streak, even if they're not a full-fledged moron.

Well, it is not actually that I hate helping people, I just tend towards introversion so it is difficult for me to get out and do things. I have the SATs and ACTs that are average for Ivy schools so I am good on the academic side.

I am looking at OU because national merit scholars get a good amount of scholarship and I think that I will be a national merit scholar(everyone else I know seems certain that I will be). Would OU be a good choice to find other intelligent people?

Just out of interest, which "Earth" do you live on?

On the one I live on, that would mean that about 1 cell in 1 person is a moron, as you assume a world population of 10000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000. Last I checked the population was well below 10000000000.

I'm not familiar with OU's programs or what you're thinking about studying, so I can't say. I had a 90% scholarship for law school, so it's nice not having to pay that junk back. If I had gone to a more prestegous law school, I would likely still be $100,000 in debt right now. There are lots of factors that go into your decision; my main recommendation would be to attend a school that is reputed for having an environment that is condusive to learning. (in other words, don't go to a party school).

I used to think it was a fairly small percentage, but then I got a job in the suburbs. You'll not find mroe small minded, easily frightened/confused people in the world than suburban Americans.

If moron means a person who consistently acts stupidly, and if acting stupidly means doing harm to yourself and others, then I vote 10-25% of the population worldwide is stupid. Anyone pinning this on one nationality is not correct.

I note that in general people always think it's the other people who are stupid.

Here's a good read, "The Basic Laws of Human Stupidity":

http://www.mentalsoup.com/mentalsoup/basic.htm

1. Always and inevitably everyone underestimates the number of stupid individuals in circulation.

2. The probability that a certain person be stupid is independent of any other characteristic of that person.

3. A stupid person is a person who causes losses to another person or to a group of persons while himself deriving no gain and even possibly incurring losses.

4. Non-stupid people always underestimate the damaging power of stupid individuals. In particular non-stupid people constantly forget that at all times and places and under any circumstances to deal and/or associate with stupid people always turns out to be a costly mistake.

5. A stupid person is the most dangerous type of person.

According to the "80/20 Rule" (a very depressing statistic if you ask me), 80% of the world's population is dumb as a rock, and does all the work. The remaining 20% (the ones with high IQs) exploit the ignorant masses, and make all the money.

Perhaps it doesn't catalogue true idiocy, but the numbers make sense in terms of world population that is educated, considering the high illiteracy rate in much of the world.

I found one indescrepancy however; if the 20% of the intelligent people in the world are supposed to rule the 80% of the morons...why do we have people like Bush in charge...Ah yes...the idiots voted for him...

I see the majority does rule...

...I don't like numbers...

Just don't forget how popular Clinton was with the masses.
