Well what would you say it was?

I'm voting for the Sanford and Son tune. Never seen the show, love the tune.

What about you? It can be from a T.V show, movie, whatever.

Very much so. I'm sure there's others that I've heard that are slipping my mind, but this is my current favorite. I've always enjoyed the opening to ATHF as well, hehe.

Did you ever see when they have the old man speak the lyrics with a dancing girl backdrop?

There are some very good nominations on this thread. Most of you folks have fine taste in movie/tv theme songs.

excelent choice, one of the few theme songs played on the radio as a single.

my choice is "secret agent man" by johnny rivers. from the show "secret agent" or "danger man" starring patrick mcgoohan.

I had to play that song in Marching Band!

I have quite a few favorites....

The Imperial March from star wars: the empire strikes back.

The Pink Panther Theme. Gotta love the Pink Panther.

The Emperor's Throne Room Those Dark, gothic chorus guy voices can be somewhat spooky....

The Simpsons. Dude.... It's the simpsons! How can you not like the simpsons?

I have so many favorites....

Look at what's happened to me,
I can't believe it myself.
Suddenly I'm up on top of the world,
It should've been somebody else.

Believe it or not,
I'm walking on air.
I never thought I could feel so free-.
Flying away on a wing and a prayer.
Who could it be?
Believe it or not it's just me.

It's like a light of a new day-,
It came from out of the blue.
Breaking me out of the spell I was in,
Making all of my wishes come true-.

Believe it or not,
I'm walking on air.
I never thought I could feel so free-.
Flying away on a wing and a prayer.
Who could it be?
Believe it or not it's just me.

As long as we are involving movies as well, then you are as clumsy as you are stupid. The Imperial March for the win.

Outside of movies, though, I'll put points down for the theme from Masters of the Universe, The Avengers, and the music for Most Extreme Elimination Challenge.

Oh yeah, almost forgot.

I personally think that some of the best themes are from:

TV
MacGyver
Monty Python's Flying Circus
Stargate Atlantis
Stargate SG-1
Thunderbirds

Movies
Back to the Future
Chariots of Fire
Independence Day
Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
Midway
Nicholas and Alexandra
Patton
Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country
Star Trek First Contact
Star Wars
Alien Born
22-07-2005, 01:20
Red Dwarf, particularly the opening theme.

I prefer the closing theme (http://www.freedomware.co.uk/rdlibrary/redsong.wav)
Boonytopia

The Magnificent Seven. So good they used it for VB (beer) ads for 20 odd years, albeit slightly modified.

The opening theme for Farscape was very primal and unusual, Futurama is a good one, and Family Guy swings its ass off, but for me, by far the best theme on TV belongs to Yoko Kanno and Seatbelts for "Tank!" from Cowboy Bebop.

For movies, my favorite theme was the insane accordion that accompanied Terry Gilliam's 12 Monkeys. A close second would be the hybrid TV-Movie theme of Police Squad/Naked Gun -- swings like crazy.

Why exclude anime? "Ride On Shooting Star" is outstanding power pop from a group calling themselves The Pillows. It's a good show, too.

"Few"?

Aside from Greatest American Hero, can anyone help me dispel this notion of "few" that got on the radio?

"Welcome Back" (Joey Scarbury, Welcome Back, Kotter)
"I'll Be There For You" (The Rembrandts, Friends)
"Hill Street Blues" (____________, Hill Street Blues)
"Get Happy" (The Partridge Family)
"Hey, Hey, We're The Monkees" (The Monkees)

Any more?

I absolutely adored the intros to Hercules: The Legendary Journeys and Xena: Warrior Princess.

As for movies:
"The Touch" Transformers the Movie
and
the theme for Man in the Iron Mask. Sorry, I don't recall the name. But it's the tune they pretty much play whenever someone's riding on a horse.

Which you know...happens a lot...cuz it's Dumas.

Oh. And the Longevity Award goes to:
The intro song for My Secret Identity, for being the one I've remembered the longest.
New Empire

Hmmm... A lot have already been mentioned, but the theme song from Kill Bill (battle without honor or humanity) was good, or at least extremely catchy.

Tank!, The Real Folk Blues, and Blue from Cowboy Bebop from TV (as well as the Futurama theme, I've always loved that one)

The Emperor's Theme from Star Wars for the win!

I also like the extended Family Guy theme from Live in Vegas.
