The melting Earth + G8 summit

This a serious thread no flaming or stupid remarks please, humour welcome
I hope this doesnt hit the 'been done allready mark' but here goes ..
Firstly after the G8 meeting up the road (Scotland) It said on the news they were going to discuss the global warming issues but I haven't heard a thing about it, did they even discuss this and what was the outcome ??
Secondly we actually can't stop global warming only slow it down unless we come up with one crazy plan to stop the ice melting, so how do we survive ??
Will we find time to stop fighting and get enough time to build some sort of space station to save our very existence ?
Or some far out space mission to another habitable planet ?
It will come to this eventually so I hope they actually have a plan.

Maybe the Apocalypse will come before we have to think of that. Please let it happen.

They would have done it on the 7th. Need I say more?

Okay. I'll be serious.
But I'm skeptical. Even if the G8 could reach an agreement about global warming it will be only on paper. The developed world aren't going to be good self-regulators and stop their greenhouse gas emissions. The developing world can't. All talk, no action.

I am surprised there hasn't been any publicity about it, I was hungry for some plans as I do think about this a lot.

I know what you mean and we know what they are like, as for the gas house emissions they can be dramtically reduced and electric cras could be put in place but they want to sell petrol for cash instead - greed in government as allways !

I hope this falls less under the "stupid" category and more under the "humorous". Considering the weather lately, I think we should change global warming to global boiling.

???? Mate post something usefull, if you are calling this threat to our very existance stupid then you obviously don't need to post in my serious thread.

Wow, this is old news.
G-8 Urges Action on Global Warming (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/07/07/AR2005070702133.html)
The G8 summit did only three things on global warming:
1) Get everyone to acknowledge that global warming is actually real
2) Get everyone to acknowledge that global warming may be caused by human activity
3) Get member nations to agree to a nonbinding pledge to try and decrease carbon dioxide emissions
In the end, the G8 summit failed to produce any real progress and only got its members to admit to facts that were already a given. Hurrah for politicians, and the fact that George Bush doesn't want C0^2 reduction quotas! -___-

The fact that the earth has been much hotter then it is today in its history with little effect on the animals at the time, means global warming is just a tool to scare people into conforming with the enviromentalists factions of the world. It is funny how they have you thinking th eworld is going to implode in our lifetime.
Show a graph of global warming over 5 years and it will look amazing, show it over 100 million and it will look insignifigant.

I'm really wishing I weren't misinterpreted so much. I do feel that this threat to our existence is very serious and, while global warming is a concept that has existed for years now, it seems that there is very little done about it in actuality. I was merely pointing out that, with record breaking heat waves all over, it feels more like global "boiling"- something more severe than just "warming". Take it how you will.
Global Warming is based on some amusing scientific failures. The primary one is that it's scientific consensus, which holds no weight with me. I likes my evidence, see. Secondly, the idea was formed by hippies thinking, with their high-school science qualifications, "Trees breathe in CO2. We're cutting down trees! That CO2 must all be going into the atmosphere." You can see that it is patent BS (More than 80% of the CO2 cycle goes through plankton in the oceans.), and it was rejected out of hand until global temperatures were seen to be rising. And then it was decided that correlation indicated causation.
Global warming is happening, in my eyes, as a natural part of the cycle of the planet. The last half-million years have contained fluctuations of over 12 degrees celcius. To be freaking out because this is happening one more time is the height of hysteria.
At any rate, many of the G8 leaders will be meeting in London in early November to discuss this issue specifically.
Incidentally, Bush's probably is that he'd rather not lose millions of American jobs, and certainly not when developing nations aren't bound by these regulations.

This is the exact source of the problem. 12 degrees of fluctuations overs 500 000 years leave a lot of time to nature and species to evolve and adapt. A fluctuation over 50 years can screw us bad. Just ask a farmer how much a hotter/colder summer then usual will affect is crop by influencing the plants or insects.

So like I said it's going to happen and to think the future will easily manage it is STUPID and WRECKLESS of us to do, to act now to slow it down would be a good step..

It's based on the rate the water is rising not some 'hippy's love for a tree' Amsterdamn is allready filling over very very slowly with water due to the flat lands, Bush is an IDIOT not to sign up for this 'im here now and i'll do what I want' is the attitude I pick up from people like him. The future isn't just some story its our kids and their kids and theirs who will have to deal with it, and I for one think helping them now is a brilliant idea. To simply pass it of as a lie or as a worry is so CARELESS and inconsiderate of our future generations.

Global warming is happening, in my eyes, as a natural part of the cycle of the planet.
so are the scientists of the ipcc lying or just misinformed when they say the following?
"The observed warming is inconsistent with model estimates of natural internal climate variability... The observed warming in the latter half of the 20th century appears to be inconsistent with natural external (solar and volcanic) forcing of the climate system... The observed change in patterns of atmospheric temperature in the vertical is inconsistent with natural forcing."

and, if i may ask, how did you uncover this massive cover-up and/or scientific error?

Bluestrips2']so how do we survive ??
We don't! We would not be the first species to become extinct on this planet. I always think it's funny how people say "save the planet" The planet has been around for billions of years, the planet will probably be around a billion more. Forget trying to "save the planet" SAVE THE PEOPLE! :p

Oh, it's serious, very serious. People don't like reality. If they close their eyes and pretend it's not happening quite a few of them can convince themselves usually.
Problem is not "warming", problem is the ice is melting in the Artic, which is causing extreme weather shifts all over the planet. Whoever named it "Global warming" did the cause no service. It's not exactly "warming" per se, it's simply extreme weather climate change. It's very real and it's very much happening. No matter how much people wish it wasn't.

Good point..
I am confident that our future generations will be able to save our ass's with space travel and such. Im sure it wouldn't be too hard to build a space station or some water float 'thing' the size of a huge city.
