Amen. Sad to see a nice guy, one who inspired a generation people to go into engineering, finally pass on.

I believe I speak for all canadians when I say we lost one hell of an actor, he will be missed but he did celebrate a full life and did many good roles. Rest in Peace up there in the big starship in the sky.

Lots of the best actors come from Canada, including but not limited to Jim Carrey, John Candy, and of course, Jimmy Doohan.

Scotty was one of my favorite star trek actors. I remember reading in one of the later star trek books he designed parts of the Enterprise E.

Somewhere, perhaps in a galaxy far, far away, a Scottish star ship engineer has finally been granted command of his own star ship. Attention! Cap'n on deck!

That's Star Wars. Interestingly enough, I remember reading that never on the show did anyone say "Beam me up, Scotty." The TNG episode where they find Scotty in the transporter is one of my favorite episodes. Particularly the part when he drinks that green stuff that Data can't identify.

Too bad. He certainly had a cool, and fake, Scottish accent. Boldy go, Scotty :P

He was a WWII Juno Beach survivor. He took three bullets in his legs, lost a finger, and coulc have been killed hadn't he had a cig case on him. He moed into TV and then manged to make his mark on history. A true loss or a hero.

Great guy. Made the series enjoyable to watch. I'm just glad he had a full life. I couldn't believe he fought in WWII. Truly heroic stuff!

A great actor, and a terrific human being...he will be missed.

Hmm...first DeForrest Kelly, now James Doohan.

One by one... :(

There goes the man who made me shun every Star Trek fan I've met since I was five. (My name's Scotty.)

I still feel sad though.

Amen. Sad to see a nice guy, one who inspired a generation people to go into engineering, finally pass on.

This is extremely true.

For those of you that don't know, I'm a registered civil engineer. I grew up in the 70s / 80s (mostly 80s) and watched Trek on a regular basis with my dad. As a kid there were really two people whom my dad would use to get me to force myself to challege myself and push my limits both physically and creatively: Scotty and Yoda. :)

When I reached high school, it was clear that I had aptitudes for five subject areas: history, economics, government, science, and mathematics, but Scotty made engineering fun -- and he *was* and *is* an out of the box engineer. I work with many other engineers, and I can say with complete conviction, that the engineers that are willing to think beyond what they know and take a risk or two, are the people that actually solve problems.

He will be extremely missed. :( Both as a character and as Jimmy Doohan, whom I always felt was in and of himself a rolemodel. He just never really had anything but positive things to say, though on some subjects (like his dislike of Bill) he wouldn't lie about it either.

This is indeed a sad day. :( However James Doohan will forever live on in our memories. He will not be forgotton.
