Not a big fan of burbon (don't know why, it's almost the same thing)

It's Scotch and heather, I think. It's....
Wonderful. Seriously, out of this world. Drinking it is like a religious experience for me.

Best rye out there that I've tried is a single malt from San Francisco called Old Potrero. It's pricey--about 65 bucks a bottle--but the 90 proof is the stuff of the gods.

About 3 months ago I got to try some 18 year old Macallan single malt--18 bucks a shot, and worth it (as long as I wasn't paying for it--business dinner, and we were trying to run up the company card).

For general sipping, though, about 30 bucks a bottle, Black Bush Irish is my absolute favorite.

I warn you to stay the hell away from it. It tastes horrible, and burns in an unkewl way when gulped down. ..Hey..I had to do that, to prevent some other people from getting drunk. And, no, I didn't get smashed, or even buzzed. :p

I'll have to try some of that Union Cherry. Sounds good.

Where can you get Old Potrero in the city? A friend shared some with me once, but I have never been able to find it.

Im a fan of scotch, so naturally I enjoy jonny walker, black label or up. Blue label is very good if you feel like dumping the money into it. Chivas regal (sp?) is also a very good scotch, especially for the price.

For whiskey you can never go wrong with jack daniels, gentelmen jack, or single barrel. But I prefer Knob Creek, all of them are very good whiskey though.

I'm not a gin fan, but Junipero is good stuff.

If you've never done it, I suggest taking the tour of the Anchor brewery. It's right there on Potrero Hill, and it's free. There's a beer tasting afterwards, and they don't skimp, but you've got to schedule in advance to take the tour, because it's quite popular.

And the only way you should drink Scotch is either on the rocks, or if you want it mixed, only with dry or water. Scotch + cola = cardinal sin! :D

Gotta say its gotta be Scotch if its whiskey, but all in all, a nice sippin "liquor"

Glenmorangie, or Royal Lochnagar. Though you may not be able to get the latter in the US.

Now this is a proper list.
Prefer lowlands or speysides myself but Talisker and the other peat monster are good to sip when you're only going to have a few. As We Get It is ok as well.
Try:
Highland Park
Glenfarclas (the spelling of this is wrong)
JD and the like are ok if you're going to mix em but lack the subtlties and depth of a malt. Want to mix a drink have a gin and tonic!

TBF has listed some great ones. I just wanted to add Lagavulin and Laphroaig. What can I say... I like me smoke and peat.
And: Laphroaig used to have this cool thing... you could claim your own lifetime share of Laphroaig's estate and "become an Islander" when you bought a bottle... check that out...

A favorite scotch of mine is The Famous Grouse by Gloag and Son. For me, the price and quality of the drink meet the perfect balance (it's not as prohibitively dear as some finer whiskey, but it still tastes good and does the job)

In my booze cupboard at the moment:

Famous Grouse
Jameson
Glenmorangie
Laphroaig
Bushmills

All to be recommended, but the first two are everyday blends and could stand a mixer. If I ever hear about you mixing the last three I will be over there and borrow Synik's .357 magnum and I'll come visiting. I may not agree with personal gun ownership, but there are some crimes too serious to allow :D

I also have a bottle of Jack Daniels that has been there for around 3 years. Nasty stuff only good for mixing with Cola.

We arent talking any quantity, Oxwana. I'm talking a sip. I was 9 or 10 maybe. Now I'm 38 and I was probably the last one to touch that bottle.
The memory of the taste is still very vivid in my mind. My memory is poor in the conventional sense-I have a hard time recalling things. (trauma)
But as far as taste and smells-I have an immediate association with things and perfect clarity of recollection with thse experiences.

I may look to buy a bottle of Drambuie this weekend.

Single Malt Scotch: Laphroaig Cask Strength if you can find it, the regular 10 year old otherwise. I tried the 15 year old and it is more mellow, rather like a Glenfinich. I love the peaty taste of the Cask Strength.

Irish: Merry's Single Malt or Tulimore Dew

Corn: Wild Turkey 100 proof

If you like Drambouie, you might like to try Irish Mist - Irish whiskey mixed with honey.

P.S.

I have plot 248435 on Islay, any other plot holders out there?
