My job sucks

Dakini

And I keep coming up with "if this happens, I'm quitting." and the like...
Yet these things never happen. For instance, I said I would quit if they warned me because a jackass of a customer said I rolled my eyes at her. They haven't warned me. Damn.

Though now it's a matter of if they don't let me get time off to see my grandparents, then I'm quitting.
However, I still hate my job and if my boss bends over backwards to make sure that I can get the time off, I'll feel really shitty if I quit for some time after that.

If your job sucks, why don't you quit? Make up a reason. Say you're quitting because you got floccinaucinihilipilified by a customer. ;)

Most jobs suck, if they didn't they wouldn't have to pay you. (evidence by my field where there are a ton of bastards willing to do it for free...dammit)

But the reality is, Joe Jobs are sure to suck. And hard. It's nice to change up the flavor of suck now and then by shifting to a different sucky job. Just remember like boyfriends and girlfriends it's easier to get a job when you have a job. If you're going to bail, know where you're going to bail to.

On the other hand, it does look good to those future employers if you stuck with one job for a long time, especially if you kept moving up in that job 'cause it means you stuck with it and where valuable. It really depends. I'm guessing you're young which means that at least half the jobs you have now won't really make it on the next application, they are throw aways. It's all you-but this is the last time in your life where you have the freedom to go, "You know what? This place sucks and so do all of you" and not have it drastically effect you, so you might as well enjoy it if you can.

If you don't like your job then quit and you don't need an excuse other than you don't like the job. I'd recommend getting another job first as the best time to get a job is when you already have one. So, quit your whining, get another job, and quit.

I've managed to tack on an extra year... so I've got two years to go for my BSc.
I coudl probably get a job in a factory if I quit this one and make more than minimum wage and also get 40 hours.

I'm really hoping that my manager can't swing the deal with getting me that week off. If she doesn't then I'm quitting.

Close. Filmmaker. (I turned down a job at [website, so I'm not telling lest I get busted for linking porn] editing and shooting women gettin' it on with appliances. That hurt a little because they where offering $65K a year. I just couldn't do it...though poor and homeless now I kinda regret that one...) But I have to do a lot of free crew work before anyone will pay my ass because there are soooooooo many of us. What's worse is I practically have to beg to do work for free. I'm shooting and editing a doc and writing segments for a horror show all for free. Last screenplay I sold was for a dollar. And I'm making it hard on myself by staying in NorCal instead of moving to LA like all my friends did and are now working secure in the industry.

Mommas, don't let your children grow up to be filmmakers. I don't need more competition...

I lift boxes from a cavorbelt and sort them to five other belts. The packages are between 3 and 300 pounds and I have to do about 20,000 per day. I also start work at 2 a.m.

In short, don't complain.

You don't need an excuse to quit. Quit and quit wining. Jeez!

The big thing with keeping this job is that I do like my coworkers. I also like my manager except for the whole fucking over my social life and backing down on every single promise she makes regarding my schedule. i.e., she tells me for so long that I get a certain weekend off and then changes it at the last minute. And I really don't want to screw over the department, as we are already short staffed and assuming I stay past my intended trip, another girl will be leaving before me. If I can't get that week scheduled off, however, she and I will both be quitting within a week of each other.

I'm guessing you get a premium for working the night shift and get paid more than minimum wage while putting up with bitchy customers while getting treated like shit.

Don't worry about it (the people telling you to quit and stop whining, that is), some people don't understand a sense of loyalty and sense of responsability that makes just walking away without a plan hard to do with some people. It's really a sign that you're a good employee which means you'll do fine.

Your burned out, and looking for an exscuse to quit.

Why wait for an exscuse?
If your not happy...just find another.

Well, we are training new people, once they're done their training, the department won't be short staffed anymore. Then I don't have to worry about screwing everyone over.

No, but I did that for over five years. It sucks, but trust me, it's better than what I'm getting now.

Well my suggestion is you find another job before you quit this one. You are considered more hireable coming from a job then from the position of not having one. When you do find that job give your soon to previous employer two weeks notice. This is a responsible way to exit your present job.

Perhaps I can just say that the situation with working in a completely different city than my family is causing me undue stress and I simply can't take it anymore.

You really can't complain, Dakini. After all, you do support capitalism, so I don't see how you can have a problem with this. It's just the nature of capitalism. Questioning capitalism might even lead you to socialist thinking if you're not careful.

I'm rather socialist.

I only need money for tuition and food, really. And if tax dollars paid my tuition, then I would be ever so happy. :)

Yeah, I could go live at home and get a warehouse job. It would pay more and give me more hours.
