Road kill

For all the animal lovers: this can be quite shocking

A co-worker and I were driving to work this morning (I'm working as a gardner this summer). We we just driving and talking when I noticed something what I thought was a paper flapping in the wind on the road. But when we got closer I saw it was a cat, trashing. Someone had hit it with his/her car and the poor creature couldn't get up at all. It had been hit pretty badly and was just trashing in pain and fear. So in an effort to end it's misery we did what we could do....... We drove over it. We couldn't stop because it was a busy road. It was all we could have done for the poor kitten. The saddest part was that we didn't kill it. But when we passed the same spot a few hours later it was gone.

Did we do right?

It's an animal. You'll get over it. I got over seeing my cat get stuck under the tire and ran over by my mom when she parked in the garage and watching its brother trying to pull his dead brother out.

Now, if it was a human, I'd have to condemn you for driving over it.

You did the right thing.

However, the f***ing owner of the cat should have kept the damn thing out of the road. I'm sick of assholes just letting their cats run around the neighborhood completely out of control. 90% of those poor bastards die of disease or get hit by a car. The other 10% go into my yard and start a fight with my german sheppards.

Also the cat was definately dead, someone probably just moved it out of the road. No way a cat can meet the bottom of a tire and live.

Obviously I'm not a fan of cats...

Isn't that what they actually did? Run it over?

Anyway, too bad for that cat - should've learned its lesson that cars are fast and dangerous and a road is not the place to hang out on.

(I like cats to a certain point where they just get annoying, so I'm against cruelty on animals - then again, any doc would've put her down as well...)

You may have done right, there is no longer any way to know. I think better would be to put aside your unwillingness to stop on a busy road, put on your emergency blinkers, park REALLY quick just in front of the creature, get it in the car, and drive fast to where you can park to do a damage assessment, and possibly administer medical attention or find help. Just because it 'can;t get up' doesn't mean it is too badly injured, it could be a hip injury which I know from experience makes walking literaly impossible. But can be repaired. You could have had a new pet. Instead, you decided on a new hood ornament.
And while some see this as morbid, if it ended up dieing, you could have stuffed it. Burying is a social norm. I have several of my cats stuffed, and one roadkill stuffed. And by stuffed I mean in cute positions as though they were alive.

I've always wanted to stuff dead relatives. It would be kuhl to dress them up differently on holidays or when the mood strikes me.

People are forgetting that humans are animals, it seems. I condemn the driving over it. In fact, hearing things like this makes me further revere cats MORE then humans. Pardon me humans, but your not trying hard to prove my misanthopy wrong...

I make it simpler for people that don't think that humans = animals.

I think humans are above all animals and I'm inclined to keep it that way.

Human pride worldwide!

From the TV show Alan Partridge:

Alan: I remember I hit a fox once. Yes, in the Peak District. I remember seeing the reflection in its eyes just before I hit it. It was too late, of course. But I didn’t kill it, that was the tragedy, I had to go back and finish him off with a jack.

You have to see them naked to get them dressed up in the first place. I don't want to see any of my family naked!

OK, how about this. Seeing your parents naked and being able to visulaise clearly how you were conceived. Or seeing your younger brother discover something 'new' about his body that is a lot of fun to play with...

There are places no person should ever go...

honestly seeing my parents or siblings naked wouldn't bother me either. WHy are you people so hung up on this? I would not visualize my parents having sex if I saw them naked. If you would, then I can understand why this would bother you.

Maybe it's because I was traumatised as a child when I was ill during the night, and called my mother for help, and she lost her dressing gown on the way to the stairs. Then I understood what all that noise in my parents room was about!

No, you did not do right, you should have stopped and helped the cat no matter how busy the road. If it was still alive and only had been hit once then there is chance for recovery.

hmm, I almost hit a cat a couple weeks ago. The little idiot started crossing the street and since it was midnight and I was tired I wasn't expecting it to so I jammed on the brakes and missed it by a hair! I swear I got || that close to hitting it! I think you did the right thing. Though it depends on how badly injured it was, it sounds like it was hurt really bad and the best thing to do would just be to let it go. It makes me sick to see all those dead animals in the road.
