T.V. Censorship
What do you believe should be cencored on T.V.?
You might want to change the spelling to "censor".
I don't think anything should be censored. However, I think television should give adequate content warning so people have a choice whether or not to watch something.

I'm eager to see why people think racist language out to be censored. I can see wanting a broadcasting company to censor it themselves because it's not very tasteful, but I don't see the need for government to get involved in that.

I think on the lower channels like 1-60 should be censored, but above that people can put on what they like. That way there are plenty of shows for kids, but also some for adults.

Nothing on T.V. should be censored. FREE THE TELEVISION!

I think people need to be able to expect a certain minimum standard of decency to be adhered to on television. This goes ESPICALLY for racist comments. Anyone who somehow doesn't understand why this language should be legally censored is clearly NOT a minority in the country he/she lives in.

Crime dramas and 'reality' TV.
Possibly some gameshows as well.
Home-improvement shows.
Ummm....those godawful diet-pill commercials?

You're right, I'm not a minority in the country I live in (well, technically I am, but the color of my skin doesn't indicate that), but I still don't see how censoring racist language solves any problems. Like I said, if the broadcasting companies want to lose customers over the issue, let them. In the meantime censoring the language does nothing to alleviate the weight of racism on society.

I don't think you should be allowed to censor any nudity at all.
Violence should be regulated.
There should be a time and a place for everything. For instance, most people don’t want porn to be on at eight o’clock in the morning when kids can access it without the knowledge of their parents, but if a proper warning about content s given, television networks should be able to show whatever they want, say from ten to four in the evening. The same goes for violence.

I like it when shows are advertised as "uncensored". They either
A) Not have anything worth censoring
B) Are censored despite the "uncensored" label
The only thing these shows don't censor that would be normally is the f word.
And anyone that is ugly or male should be censored nude. Anyone else is ok.

Nothing, if you don't like it, don't watch.

In my perfect world the corrupt influences of life would be abolished. To that end I like censorship. What you watch and see affects your personality and actions. The more things that are censored the less negative influence to corrupt your personality and make the world a little bit of a worse place.

Actual death and corpses as seen on TV News should be toned down...bodiy bags or blankets on a corpse convey the image of death just as powerfuly, but seeing burnt corpses etc as is sometimes seen on TV news is just too much. Respect for the dead should count for something.
Otherwise the only thing I think should be censored are those AWFUL tv commercials I see only on US TV stations, like that idiotic ad Glaxo-Welcome runs late night on Spike for "Resteless Leg Syndrome" and all those retarded Enzyte commercials. Things with no real medicinal value whose "benefits" can only be reffered to obliquely and not directly are just the modern version of snake oil. Perhaps more regulations regarding pharmeceutical ads in genral should be imposed. The pharmeceutical companies have become mere drug peddlers, rather than makers of cures.
I like the system we have in Canada, where after prime time, meaning between the hourts of 9PM and 6AM, profantiy is okay and uncensored, and later yet, full frontal nudity and even full blown hardocre sex is broadcast (esp. on channels like Bravo & Showcase for example) Short clips of nudity are tolerated on earlier newscasts and documentaries as well, prefaced with some short warning beforehand, as long as its in some legitimate rather than prurient context (ie: naked indigenous peoples in a documentary, a short clip of some poor women getting her boobs crushed for a mamogram)
As long as people are properly informed of whats going to be shown and why (drama, documentary, porno) they can exercise their right to watch or not to watch, and parental control options on nearly any TV less than 10 years old means parents can "sheild" their children from whatever content they wish to.
As for Racist comments, yet again it depends on the context. Documentaries, newscasts and even a well made drama in which the racist comments truly further the plot rather than seek to promote hatred should be allowed. You need some leeway for artistic liscense, if only so directors & screenwriters can properly deal with and confront racist issues. Racist comments done for a laugh in some comedy however, have no place on TV. We have enough immature bullshit on the air with all those idiotic "reallity" shows, we don't need anymore childish ignorance on TV. (IMHO: *some* reallity shows are actually pretty good and not immature garbage...maybe 5% of that is)
German Nightmare

I consider the German rating system concerning violence and nudity pretty good.
Movies rated 16 are only to be shown after 22:00
Movies rated 18 are only to be shown after 23:00
What the news television could really cut down on is showing blood, bodyparts and corpses in the evening news.
That upsets me each and every time 'cause minors definitely are watching.
Bad enough that so-and-so many people died whereever, but I don't want to see the bloodsoaked seat of a totaled car, arms and legs in the street after a bombing or people jumping out of buildings.
And if there's no other material available - just put the fuzzblurr over it and leave it up to peoples minds.
Besides, I object the portrayal of violence much more than nudity. A butt or a breast have never hurt anyone. :D
I say, get rid of all censorship. We already have ratings, so what do you need to censor everything to death for?
No censorship. Let the market decide what is acceptable based upon consumer demand, and keep the government out of it. They just screw things up.
Nobody is forced to watch these "offensive" programs, so there is no grounds for censorship so long as the content of the program is clearly conveyed to the viewer (parental discretion advised, mature viewers, etc.)

I don't think shows should have ratings. I think stations should have ratings. Wanna show nudity and violence? Then your station is rated "R" I also like v-chips in tv's for all the lazy parents who feel they don't "have time" to raise their kids right. The v-chip lets the rest of us no be affected by it!
