A VERY obscure music question...

I am looking for a specific tune from a movie.

In "X2: X-Men United", the very first scene where Nightcrawler is running through the halls of the White House, there is a classical peice with a powerful chorus playing in the background. I'd like to know the title and composer of that piece, because...frankly, that peice was too frickin' awesome for me to leave out of my next mix CD...

There, I said it, I'm a total nerd, I know! :p

Any info would be appriciated, thanks!

X2 / X-Men 2
Music Composed and Co-Orchestrated by John Ottman
Conducted and Co-Orchestrated by Damon Intrabartolo
Addtional Orchestrations by Frank Macchia, Rick Giovinazzo,
Christopher Tin and Pierre Andre
Score Recorded and Mixed and Album Produced by Casey Stone

You'd have to check the playlist on the album for the particular one you want, but it's all by the same guy. John Ottman. I'm *guessing* the one you want is track 1 "Suite from X2".

I haven't seen the movie, but I'd be willing to bet that the person that composed that piece was the same person that composed the rest of the background music for the movie. I did a quick google search and found that his name is John Ottman. I doubt there's a title for the piece other then 'X2 Score' or something.

Edit: You beat me.

It's a Mozart Sonata. From Requiem in D-Minor. It's the Dies Irae.

Oh ... and it's not that obscure. It's almost as common as Orff's "Carmina Burana" in films made after 1998.

Heh. I haven't seen the movie, but I thought of those two right away. ;)

Well it's almost a knee-jerk whenever someone mentions music in an action scene. I bet if Orff were alive today, he'd be very proud. :D But, sadly, he gave up the ghost in 1982.

We played the entire band arrangement of Carmina in my University band this past semester -- of course it was cut down to a mere 13 movements and 20-26 minutes (depending on tempo and repeats), but daunting nonetheless to the average audience member.

*edit* Great. I finally re-reach 300 after that uber-thread was deleted, and what am I discussing? COLLEGE BAND. Guess it's true, then, that you can take the G[r]eek out of band but can't take band out of the G[r]eek.....

Whereas I just thought, "It's probably something from Mozart's Requiem..." :D

I don't consider a song that millions of people have heard obscure, let alone VERY obscure.
