Human Interactions

Some human interactions totally baffle me. I realise that's a blanket statement, but if you're willing, please let me know... what human interactions totally baffle you?

I am going to have to vote for people that pay absolutely no attention when driving, rather they are too busy talking on their cell phone, and nearly daily I see one of these idiots come close to causing an accident, only to give the other person the finger, or cut them off, or some other road-rage technique as though they are oblivious to the fact they are the problem.

most human actions are strange to me. the one i hate most is my inability to make myself work or study even though i know that i need to or else i'll fail and have to repeat my subjects at around $500 a pop

The way that people act while suffering from full-blown love or a pesky crush. As well, cultures and their inability to get along.

PARADES baffle me.

we must have 10 parades a year in this small town and they are exceedingly popular.

a bunch of people walk or ride slowly down the street. some wear costumes, some make music, most just go as themselves.

the rest of the town watch them walking or riding slowly down the street.

whats the attraction?

S&M scares me. I also don't understand anal sex. Why turn a one way lane into two-way road? :p

Seconded. The only good thing about it is how you occationally get to kick someone's ass.

Parades are weird, especially ones like that. "Let's watch others slowly pass by in formation!", or somethins Not fun.

That and dancing. Why is it considered entertaining to stand in a crowded room with a bunch of sweaty people and jerk around rythmically (or not so) to usually terrible music?

The fact that people can't seem to reason while in confrontation completely baffles me.

Small talk is beyond my ability to understand. I wish people would shut up unless they actually have something worthwhile to say. It further disturbs me that many people's entire social lives consist of nothing but small talk.

Because of the amount of accidents because of cell phones we are now banned from using them while driving if we don't have a hands free kit. Thas in the UK tho

*Shudder* you are SO right

i hate most that form of small talk that occurs between strangers who HAVE to spend half an hour figuring out who or what they might have in common, even if they have no earthly reason to have a connection

"i grew up in tennessee" "oh i spent an afternoon in the airport in nashville one time" .... and a connection is established

useless stupid waste of time!

Many people still don't know how to appreciate somebody when they're around. Friends, parents etc. They only know how to miss and treasure AFTER they're gone. That baffles me.

It's been shown that it's the fact you're talking on the phone, not holding it, that causes the problems, so that really doesn't solve anything.

I'm completey baffled by people who are completely absorbed in watch sports..most specifically football.

I have no clue when it comes to most things that people do. They act like idiots and think that I have a problem when I tend to be arrogant when they have never proven to even be on the same level as I am. I do make mistakes and I will admit that but many people are offended by my obvious awesomeness while I find their stupidity offensive. Intelligence is a mixed blessing.

Sorry this is a bit off topic, it is just a rant I was thinking about.

Most people seem to be very illogical and many actions are done for stupid reasons and the thing that I do not understand is the people themselves(they cherish short term gain over long term gain). They also seem to have some social conscience that is made of convoluted rules that exist despite the lack of reasons to exist. I am just out of it. :(

"i grew up in tennessee" "oh i spent an afternoon in the airport in nashville one time" .... and a connection is established

That's particularly the thing that bothers me about it. The connection is established on the basis of... what!? It's bullshit!

Although, I tend to ignore almost everyone, unless they happen to display a trait I find interesting, and that trait is certainly not an extensive repertoire of inane all-purpose chatter.

Yeah, some people think I have an ego problem. I usually think that they have a problem being useful :) . Oh well, I will get my appreciation... or take over the world in an excessively bloody war of conquest after which I will impose my ideology upon the masses so that my perfection will be eternal. :D

The whole bloody war thing will probably never happen. :(
But it is fun to think about. :)

The way that people act differently around different people; how their behaviours, mannerisms, speech, facial expressions etc. change when they are in different company. It's easiest to notice when you first see someone you know well with someone they know well but you have never met before (ie: mother, boss).
Also, the way that some things are socially acceptable in one place but "not appropriate" in another setting. Swearing, for example, is either wrong or right, to me; a totally personal and subjective opinion. For many it is normal in one place, but they'd be horrifyied to hear it in another (church, anyone).
The different social customs of various foreign countries baffle me as well. I do not see them as inferior or superiour, but I find it strange that such diversity of human behaviour has come into being.
mmmmm... sociological goodness....
Holyawesomeness
18-07-2005, 04:49
Well, the difference is that we toady up to those in power. Swearing in church seems more offensive to God because his house seems closer to him. Swearing in front of a boss opens one up to loss of respect from the boss which can cause problems on the job(it is always good to suck up to your boss).

I can not understand the pointless shift in behavior in many instances. I can only understand gain and loss and tend to see people as objects to carry me towards my various goals(I lack empathy and have a big ego :D )

In the "small talk" vein, I have never understood what answer one is supposed to give when a stranger offers an obvious statement of fact about one. Examples include "You're very tall," "You have small hands," and the one I receive on a near-weekly basis, "You have really long hair."

I can't say "Thank you," as it's hardly a compliment, but I feel awfully stupid just saying, "Um, yes, I...do..."

"That's a great line! I'm putting that in my siggy! :fluffle: " -- Me

hands free kits are supposed to be worse than a cellphone w/o one. The driver thinks that since they have a hands free kit they, the cell phone is no longer going to be a distraction. The person allows themselve to become more distracted.

Small talk is beyond my ability to understand. I wish people would shut up unless they actually have something worthwhile to say. It further disturbs me that many people's entire social lives consist of nothing but small talk.I wholeheartedly agree.

And I still have atleast two years of school left to endure, where small talk is pretty much what conversation concists of. Sigh... Luckily, it's a nerdy school full of nerds, (altought I'm so nerdy that the other ones are pretty "normal" in comparision) so I can often get away with sitting in front of my laptop doing various nerdy things instead of conversing, while trying to stand the stupidity of the most useless conversation I hear in the background.

Another thing I have hard to stand is useless social activities while eating. Most notably extreme amounts of small talk, as well as having to sit there enduring it. It slowly kills my appetite, so unless I manage to eat fast enough, (hard without offending someone) I will inenvitably end up unable to eat as much as I would like to. I wish people would just shut up, eat their food in peace, get done with it as quickly as possible and then resume/start whatever activities they are doing/going to do.

I drive the same route home every day and after a while its become like second nature which kind of scares me. If i try to picture a specific moment on that days journey, i cant. Its as if my mind just goes into autopilot mode as soon as I get in the car
