For those of you who don't know, Aceh has been locked in a civil war for 30 years between rebels and government. It is one of the world's political hotspots, but if all goes well this could be the beginning of the end of that era.

I couldn't give two shits about Aceh. Since I live in the United States, I see no reason to interest myself in the affairs of Aceh rebels in a place like Indonesia, which is oppressive and corrupt and might just stay that way.

..And people wonder why we Americans are hated.

Frankly, I'm surprised at this news, and rather glad. I hope it works out.

I'm simply being honest. I don't care about things that do not affect me in any sort of way. If Bavaria revolted, I would care.

That's intensely short sighted. Indonesia is one of the larger exporters of Islamic terrorism in the world. Any political stability there is good for the US.

If I cared about what my government calls terrorism, then I'd care.

Huh? First of all you say that you 'couldn't give two shits', and then you make moral judgements about the country as a whole, claiming that it is 'oppressive' and 'corrupt'. The making of these judgements belies the claim that you are ambivalent here.

I've been to Indonesia, and I know from experience how corrupt it can be. I am also familiar with Indonesian history, a particularly repressive one. Don't agree? Fine. I welcome you to go to Indonesia and live there for half a year, and see if your opinion doesn't change.

The point being that this peace deal is a small move away from the repressive nature of the place which seems to trouble you so much.
