Windows XP I think. I don't much care as long as it works.

Used to have 95 *Shudders and groans at the memory*

XP as I'm forced by compatibility issues, Fedora on a dual boot for everything else.

I have a dual boot Win XP and Ubuntu computer, because of driver issues Ubuntu does not have the internet. It is still better than Windows for many things though.
I also have a PowerMac G4 with OS 9.

When I was given my old laptop (was owned by a couple other people previously, and thus rather used and old), I'd gotten ME, and a Windows XP disc with it. I stared at the ME, and wondered who would use it, and why. Edit: The old laptop had Red Hat installed on it..across 7 unequal partitions. No idea how the previous owner managed that.

Anyways, I had 2000 on that..egh. I've got XP on my new laptop, and while I'm not a fan of Microsoft and its products, it's worked well, so far.

This should be obvious.

I look at your quote by The Chinese Republics, and that explains it all.

I use a Mac because they really are stress-free, crash-proof, and dead sexy!

I wuvs my Mac!

Windows 98SE. Used to be ME *shudder*.

I hope I can get a P.C custom built, and with XP preinstalled.

Question to the geeks out there: shuold I go for XP Home, XP Pro or XP Pro 64-bit edition?

Don't suggest another OS.

64-bit won't even work unless you have a 64-bit processor (though you really shouldn't choose either of the others if you do).

If you DON'T have a 64-bit processor, I'm still inclined to say Pro simply because Home edition is still too "We know more than you" for my tastes and I still worry about the potential for intentional insecurity. On the other hand, Home is also the cheapest of the three.

Go with XP Home. 64 bit lacks drivers for common devices like printers. Pro will cost you more for stuff you will not use.

What he said.

I use XP Home, by the way.

Well, the site I'm going to only sells 64-bit processors, so that's fine. Also, 64-bit Pro is only 3 pounds more, which is good.

Hmm...also a very good point.

So what should I do: Home or 64-bit Pro???

Remember, I'd like to keep it for a while.

Coming from a tech guy, wait a while for the 64-bit OS. It is still in its infancy. It is buggy, lacks some basic driver and hardware support, and has more security holes than swiss cheese. About half a year more (give or take) and Win64 will be aged to imperfection.

Since it will take me about that long to get 900 pounds together, it should all work out fine.

Also, the price of hardware will decrease, which is just super.
