Does anyone know how to use RealPlayer?

Despite having a slightly nerdish streak, when it comes to realplayer I'm totally stuck. And since I'm not a paying customer, I don't get access to their tech support forums.

I've got realplayer 10.05 and a 500Mb generic mp3 player. *But* after around 278.5Mb is full up, it throws up an error saying "Unsupported Media Type", whether it be mp3, wav or even aac (which is what my music is stored in).

Does anyone know how to fix this? I've fiddled with everything. Everything. To no avail. It's really ticking me off.

Ta ;)

The only thing I can reccomend is this:
Go to control pannels, Add/Remove programs
Select RealPlayer and click remove.

You'll be much happier without it ;)

Should have made this point before:

I HATE Windows Media Player. With a passion. It's the worst ever. Even by Microsoft standards, it's crap.

But if there's a better (free!) frogram out there, i'm all ears...

1) uninstall real palyer
2) get the updated drivers for your mp3 player

get winamp or music match jukebox, its ugly now but it works great

That's what you get for downloading communism.

Anyway, I use RealPlayer on my PC, I have never had a problem with it.

Are you perhaps trying to run RealPlayer on a personal mp3 player? If that is the case, it is uncharted territory for me, but a possible though unlikely explanation is the size of clusters in memory meaning that your files take up more memory than their true size. On my PC for example, a 100 byte file still takes up an entire 32KB sector, so lots of small files can actually occupy a large portion of disc space. But I can't really see this happening with something as large as mp3s.

Or maybe RealPlayer is taking up a chunk of the memory. But again, that doesn't make much sense. Do personal mp3 players even run downloadable software, or their own software, preloaded?

Or maybe you're running into a limit on how long a playlist can be, and need to break up your selection into a set of shorter playlists.

Or maybe it's some bizarre quantum effect and someone who has a clue should answer. I'll shut up now, because I am a nub. :(

The only drivers availiable are for Win98. Windows XP recognises it as a USB Mass Storage Device.

Thanks for trying :)

What the heck does your MP3 player have to do with Real Player?

Anyway, if you don't absolutely need it, get rid of the crap. Instead use Winamp for music and VLC for video.

Heisenberg uncertainty principle means that Realplayer doesn't know where the electrons that store the data on the mp3 player are, because it's concentrating on how fast they're moving...

MPMan FUD26.

Actually, it isn't. *Bangs head on table.*

the firmware may take up some space but not half the space on the drive, make sure you have the firmware updates

and uninstall real player, get mmjb if you insist on something (winamp isn't that great unless you jsut wanna listen to music because thats all it does well

Do'h! When a website 'requires' RealPlayer and has no other options, I send them a nasty e-mail, delete their web-address from my history, search out and destroy their in-evitable 'cookie' in my temp folder and reboot my system :p

Haha! Just got a refund. Since prices have dropped big time since christmas, I can get something much better off Amazon :D

I get the last laugh... :p

For the record, I chose Realplayer over WinAmp (despite pefering WinAmp) because it converts .m4a files whhich I listen to on my PC into mp3's which work on my mp3 player automatically. I couldn't find a WinAmp plugin that does that.

I can't install mmjb because of a small thing called Administrator's rights...pwnd!

If you need to convert audio files, this program might be of interest to you:
dBpowerAMP Music Converter (http://www.dbpoweramp.com/dmc.htm)
It's free, and works decently, at least whenever I've used it.
The mp4 codec should be over here (http://www.dbpoweramp.com/codec-central-mp4.htm).]

EDIT:
How odd...
On the download site, it is apparently now shareware. I've had it for a few months, and it's been working. Maybe it used to be freeware, but was switched to shareware?

Go open source :p

EDIT: Yeah, it's now shareware due to summat to do with patents. I accidentally uninstalled it on my dad's account (he uses it for his phone mp3's) and deleted the setup file. I tried to redownload it, and then...shit.

Oh bugger mp3's, i'm going off to read Harry Potter. Perhaps someone will have invented software that works when i come back. :p
