Why do people buy them? They take so much money, time and effort just so you can have a little glass room on your house thats freezing cold in winter and boiling hot in summer.

Its funny you brought this up- we have one-it was built before we bought the house. There may be a week or two in the spring and a couple of weeks in the fall that its actually comfortable enough to use. Other than that-its like you said-freezing in winter and right now, its like a 150 degree green house-hot and steamy.
To me, its like another shed. I store stuff in there.

Eventually, I want to finish it like a cabana for the pool, with a bathroom/shower, changing room..

Name recognition, my friend. The US is very conservative and conservatories sound cool.

For the same reason I'd buy any kind of outbuilding: They look cool.

Nah, you got it wrong, its for growing the weed in. Every house with a conservatory is in fact a pot palace. ;)

Heh. Just remember to stick all the plants in the garage when the folks come round:

"Timothy, what is that smell, is it dinner?"

Disgusting things - still far too hot even with all the windows and the bigass double doors open. Never put a computer in one, the sun will become your worst enemy.
