P.S. I'm starting a website, and I'm gonna post souped up vehicles in a gallery. Anybody who wants to post there vehicle, telegram me in nationstates at "Sick Dreams". I won't put up the website name here, cause then I'd get bumped for spamming.

I ride a mountain bike, except when the damned thing breaks my leg! Heh!

I'm saving up to buy a crewcab dulie pickup truck. I'm going to buy a flatbed trailer to tow behind it, and a good lawnmower to go on the flatbed, so I can run around to all my children's homes and mow their yards. They're very busy, what with jobs and their own kids, so this is something I can do for them.

I drive 2 Foreign Cars.

I got a Mercedes 190E (Really old model!), and a Opel (Vauxhall) Frontera. (SUV).

My domestic cars suck (Proton, Perodua). But lots of people drive it, because of protectionism taxes, all imported cars have 200-300% import tax on them. :(

I drive a 1968 Fiat Dino Spyder (http://www.atspeedimages.com/pebble99/italiano/fiat_dino_spyder.jpg). Its the one with a 6 cylinder Ferrari engine.

For my next car (I'll have save a long time for this one) I want a 1970 Maserati Ghibli (http://www.thecarnut.com/ghiblispyder.html)

After 10 years of tuning and fiddling I only need to replace parts due to wear and tear. If driven correctly (mercilessly, like a race car, always...even for a milk run) a good Italian car is very reliable. As soon as you baby it, it conks out. Must be some kind of Catholic Complex creeping into the engineering process. On the rare occasionsd the Fiat needs work, I happily ride my mountain bike...I also use my mountainbike for transport when the car is running perfectly (95% of the time) because its good fun exercise, and easier to beat city traffic with.

1996 Nissan XE pickup truck. Okay, so it's a damn riceburner, but it's a pretty good little truck, especially with gas mileage; something like 21 mpg or so. On the other hand, it's essentially built of sheet metal on a aluminum frame or something like that, but I've customised it with my beaver on the dashboard. I bought it so I could haul my fossil stuff around in, and it came in really handy when I helped the family move. Canadian enough to have a beaver on the dashboard of my vehicle? You bet!

I just bought a red 91 Dodge Shadow for 200 bucks... I can't drive it yet, what with me not having my G2. Mostly, I bought it to fix up in class, but it's in pretty good shape. I love it, mostly just because it's my first car.

1996 GMC Sierra Ex-Cab C1500, 5.7L 350 Vortech with a few mods and tuner tricks to increase power and throttle response (over-gapped plugs with a higher octane fuel, K&N air filter, etc). Also has a set of 31x10.50 Yokohama Geolander AT II tires, a pair of ProComp 130W lights on the grill guard, and a tow package. Nothin too spectacular yet...wait till I get it all done...

And of course, there's the audio system: only a total of 1kW of power, but damn...it sure as hell was enough to make the glass fall out of my sideview mirror a month ago...I was doing the math the other day, if I'd spent the money on the engine instead of the system, I could have dropped an LS1 in...oh well, I'll just have to save for a few months so I can build a 383-stroker to drop in...

You are correct about all of it. I wish I had the 93 as it was the year they used the Northstar. But it is very unique and I love it. I've only seen one other since I've owned it (also white with a black top) and I get offers from people who wish to buy it all the time.

Just bought a 2005 Saturn ION Quad Coupe a few months back. The car I realllly wanted was a Chrysler 300C but it was a bit outta my budget.

I didn't go for the RedLine model model either. I could have but not worth the extra 4-5K IMHO for better handling and a supercharged 2.0L Honda engine. The plain jane ION Quad coupe will do about 200km/h which is good enough. On the other hand I've decided my next new car will be a true sports car and I believe I will be looking at something from the Honda or Mazda line unless US makers get serious about quality and engineering. If so I really would like a 2010 (the year my Saturn will be paid off) Mustang Cobra.... *vroom* :)

Just bought a 2005 Saturn ION Quad Coupe a few months back. The car I realllly wanted was a Chrysler 300C but it was a bit outta my budget.

That's one of the cars I'm looking at getting. How is it?

The Redline or base model coupe?

Firstly, thses cars have issues. Some of which I wish I researched better before buying. There is some problems with the rotors I've heard but had no problems at all yet. Only got 6400 km on it so far. Road noise is not too good if on a road that has exposed aggregate but good asphalt is a dream to drive on. Wind noise is also a nuisance. The door seals aren't so great IMHO but the doors can be adjusted to take care of it. These cars are built very light so they cut corners on noise dampening stuff I think. It's a good 300 lbs lighter than the Chev Cobalt which is built on the same Delta frame. The noise isn't too bad though.

Front seat roominess is very good. I dunno about the back. The trunk is enormous and with the fold down seats I could easily use my little car to move furniture.

Fuel economy is very good. I can get up to 60 MPG hwy. but I have a manual transmission.

As far as raw power goes, off the mark it's no hell. It's very much geared on the high side which is great on the highway but you will be put to shame by most cars in a drag race, especially if you got a manual transmission. On the highway though you can sail past your opponent like nothing. A lot of people hate the electric steering but I find it precise and I really don't care for the feel of feedback in a steering wheel anyhoo. It feels odd at first but you get used to it.

Appearance wise it's a very nice looking car especially with the 3 inch thick paint Saturn likes to spray all over it. All vertical surfaces are polymer panels so they will not dent but be warned they are expensive to replace if severly damaged. If you have good insurance who cares? :) The paint is like glass and if you do buy one, take my advice -- DO NOT use a coin op wand style car wash. It will put microscratches in the clearcoat enamel so go with toughless car washes or better still, go with bucket washing. My poor little car was scritched up by one of those piece of crap wand brushes and I had to have it cut polished even though it is only a few months old.

The Saturn philosophy is more about customer care (people first) and that's where they shine. I feel they could do much better on the quality side but with Saturn service, you won't be left out in the cold if you do have a problem.

The baseline coupe. I don't need the Redline.

My primary concern, all things considered, is fuel economy. With gas prices rising and rising, I want something that I can drive for weeks on a tank.

From the sound of things, your two biggest faults are the noise and the paint job. I've heard that the Saturns do show scratches too much, but the look of the car doesn't overly concern me. The noise problem could be a nuisance, I admit, but it doesn't seem like it's something that is too much of a problem.

What other cars were you considering when you made your purchase?

Well, Saturn officially does not recommend owners use those lousy brushes so I'm not sure if the paint is a quality issue. The finish is nearly mirror like so any line will show. Most people who are serious about cars despise those car washes as much as I do for the damage they can cause to paint finishes. Invariably the brushes are worn or dirty and that's where the problems surface. I woudn't use them to wash my boots.

The noise isn't extremely bad but when I bought the car, I could hear air leaking around the door between the front and rear doors. It's gone now. The road noise has as much to do with the road surface but still it isn;t a show stopper. Once on good smooth road it's very quiet.

If fuel economy is important the ION is a good choice. It's lightness probably gives it an edge over the Cobalt which is all metal and heavier. I think if you wanted considerably better fuel economy you'd need to go to a hybrid like the butt ugly Prius.

It has been said the ION has a higher cost of ownership but if you go for a lease instead of purchase, with the 3 year standard warranty you avoid the cost of ownership issue and it becomes a very good deal (depending on lease terms). Even so, Saturns seem to keep a good resale value compared to other vehicles.

As far as other cars I was looking at, there was the Chev Cobalt, Pontiac Sunfire (ugly), Chrysler 300C (nice but cost a lot more), Saturn VUE, Honda Civic etc. In the end I chose something that was different, functional, stylish, and economical and although my car is not a luxury model hotrod, given that there are very few around here it never fails to turn heads and has attracted people so curious about it that it became a conversation piece. Most people think it's an expensive car and are amazed to hear how little it cost.

I hate using car washes for a different reason: price. They tend to be vastly overpriced for the service they offer. So that shouldn't be a concern. But I have heard that every little nick and bump shows up clear as day. I've even been told it goes as far as scratches on the trunk from resting objects there. I guess the plastic paint job doesn't hold up nearly as well as metal.

I am looking to own, not lease, though I am not sure yet. There exists the possibility that I may be moving to the other side of the country within the next six months, so until that gets squared away, I think I ought to avoid making that kind of purcahse.

I am currently leaning towards the Civic, however, based on the price and gas mileage. What is keeping the Saturn in the picture is the durability of their engines.

Yes car washing is a cost I could do without but regular rinsing is nearly as good if you wax often. It all slides off. :) The best method is bucket washing. And I mean proper bucket washing. Not just slopping saopy water and grit all over.

The areas of my car which seemed most prone to webmarks, such as ones created by brushes, is the metal surfaces. The finish does scuff, scratch easily but regular waxing (good hard carnauba, not turtle wax) is your friend. Most of the lines will polish out by hand and with reasonable care the lines can be avoided. However, I would never rest any object capable of scratching on my car, Saturn or not. EVen if you do scratch it all to heck cut polishing will take care of it and it isn't as expensive as you'd think. I was so pleased with the job the body shop did that I will have it done again next year or so to freshen it up and keep it shiny.

The Civic is a good bet and if Honda had better financing terms I might have bought one.

So Saturn's financing terms are superior to Honda's? I haven't gotten far enough into the process to have given the financing options a serious look.

Well at the time I purchased the car, GM was offering 0.9% financing on 5 year loans. I didn't see much from any other maker at the time which could beat that. Not sure if it's still in effect but Saturn has the fuel rebate offer now and with GM's employee discount program for everyone I could've saved a bundle by waiting but I needed a new car badly. Even with higher financing terms, cost of ownership is something you should keep in mind when considering price and finance costs of other vehicles. Cheaper isn't necessarily more economical.

I know; I've seen it first hand. My father used to own a Dodge Intrepid. Jesus Christ.

But, like I said, this decision is a few months off at the very least, and is dictated by other events that may or may not occur in my life. Its not something I need to rush through.

Hehe yeah I heard a few nightmares about the Intrepid:eek: Buying a car is a pretty big commitment unless you're stinking rich. I spent a few months looking around and there were several factors aside from cost that factored in, such as after care, functionality, my non-conformist ways, and a fixation for shiny objects. :) It was the first car that really caught my eye and it won out in the end. Had a few second thoughts but regardless of what I bought that would still be true.
