It's weird and ambient. Enjoy. Or don't. Either way.

It's rather soothing. Good job.

Wasn't that great. Of course, I couldn't do something like that. But that's beside the point.

That was very relaxing and unique. What programs did you use to create it?

Can't you put it up for download?

Um, as far as I know it IS up for download - right? The link is in the first post....
As for how I did it: I ran my Strat through a POD XT Live (Line 6 multi effects/amp modeling pedal) and into Sonar Producer on my laptop. All of the ambient/background noises are a preset sound on the POD called "broken wash." They were actually recorded all in one take - that's how spacey the effect is. I was just playing open "D" chords and then plucking the tight strings between the tuners and the fretboard at the head of the guitar. The only other track on top of that was a one-take lead part. I used a Ebow (device that vibrates the strings with a magnet for infinite sustain) and ran it through a reverb/delay preset on the POD. I didn't apply any effects after the inital recording except slight level adjustments.
This is sort of Beck Sea Change-era type song. It's also similar to "Sinfony" by the Smashing Pumpkins (my favorite band).

Very nice. I am a fan of ambient electronica and it's going in my collection.
The ending is a bit abrupt though.
You might want to reencode it at somthing less than 224kbps for general download though, that makes for a pretty big file. 128 should be plenty.
As for marketing, the market for AE is rather shallow so, while it is good, I wouldn't focus exclusively on it.

Yeah I primarily play in a rock band, this was just an expiriment. I guess it's kind of electronica-y, but it was all made with a guitar, so no entirely artificial sounds - just heavily effected ones. Glad you like it. The ending is definitely abrupt - I was just improvising.
I know the bitrate is high, but I am a bit of a freak about sound quality. (You should be glad I didn't put the 24 bit .wav up!) You could talk me down to 192, but not 128. mp3s at 128 are sometimes not in true stereo which would make this song worse. I'll change it to 192 today - if you want the higher quality one, snag it now or IM me later at cherubrocker22.
Thanks again for the positive feedback.
Then how do I download it?
On a WinDo$e box, right click on the link and hit "save target as"

yeah or just click on it, a modern browswer should open it if not save it.

Well, keep it up. You will eventually have enough for an album. Even though it's not "pure digital" IMO it would still market as AE. Once you get abot 60min worth start looking for an AE distributer.

Oh, I agree about the fidelity part, I was just commenting because some of the poor schlubs out there still suffer through Dialup. Better a small file that gets ther point across than an irritated downloader.

With all due respect, you are not the intended audience of this song.
I don't like those bands too much. Musical taste is totally subjective, so I won't say I'm right and you're wrong, because that's rediculous. Don't say "listen to GOOD music" as though you alone determine it. You should just say "music that I like." That would be cooler.

To be honest, I would probably never put the time into generating an entire album-worth of this type of thing. I'm not really qualified and it would seem a little self-indulgent. I was thinking about using this an intro track on a concept album with my real band, which writes... intelligent slightly poppy rock, I'll call it. Maybe I'll write a few more as like "intermission" or last tracks - sort of like Doves do on their albums, if you know them.

You sound qualified, and music is all about being self-indulgent. :D
Use them as interludes, then when you get enough make an ablum out of them. If it weren't for Chip Davis you could probably even call it "Interludes" :p
Extra royalties are extra royalties after all.
Wow, nice, if u added a catchy beat, and a vocal part you could get a Madison Park thing goin :) . Nice work

Some Floyd-esque random seeming etherial quotes slightly pertaining to the album's content would be fun if it was to be an intro track to a poppy album.
Then hit them with a keyboard > drums > guitar progression kicking off your first 'real' track!
Either that or vanilla Vocals > Rest of band progression.
Just my tuppenceworth, thought it'd be good to use the movement from your ambient track into the rest of the album in a dramatic way, probably really ameturish suggestions but hey.
Oh yeah I liked it btw, I'm keeping it for my audio vault.

Soothing, totally turned me off sexually, but it was really cool ther wise, and it was not a turn off in a bad way, just my sex drive just sorta left.
Not bad! I sort of enjoyed that!
I like writing songs myself (and other works, too...) and use "professional" software to record and mix them (Peak 4, Garritan, Protools...). As Supreme Ruler of the Multiverse, you need some hobbies. ;) You can send me a TG for more details.
I quite like it. I've done experiments with this style and they've never turned out this good! Keep it up!
Edit: I don't think the ending is that abrupt. I quite like the ending. It gave me the feeling of blasting off into space, verrrry slowwwwwwly... ^.^

Nice stuff, though a little tired in that there is a lot of Ambient music already very much in that vein. You really oughta play with your FX instead of just using presets. That'll help give it a feel much more your own Ad a second channel from the same source but with different FX and potted firther down and behind the mix...maybe use a good Envelope Follower ands you could add even more depth and breadth to it without interfering with the live feel of it.

Luckily, the goal of making music isn't to get me laid.
