Is Halo an overrated, overhyped game? Same type of question, same answer. Hell yes! I suggest 'Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory' and 'America's Army'. Find them yourself though. They're about as hard to find as a Fundamentalist in a Fundamentalist Convention.

Never quite got to grips with NetHack - even with seven ADOM victories behind me, I still can't seem to get past the humps in the NetHack learning curve.

Speaking of which - here's something a bit less life-wrecking - DOOM: The Roguelike (http://chaos.magma-net.pl/doom/)

Does anyone remember that game RTCW? The GOTY Edition costs around $10 or less, last time I checked at a store. It's not as fun as MOHAA, but it's still about killing Nazis, but with horror and sci-fi thrown in.

Wolfenstien: Enemy Territory is free for PC. It was going to be an X-Pack to RtCW, but they released it as a free stand-alone game.

RTCW sucked. I didn't even finish the first episode and I decided to stop. It'll probably catch up with me when I'm bored to my highest level. The zombies and Gothic environment actually gave me a scare at first. I haven't downloaded ET but I don't think my dial-up connection would be useful for online gaming.

Xfire (http://www.xfire.com) - Tracks your gaming hours, friends, allows in-game instant messaging in supported games, and can help you find new games to play including free downloadables off their P2P network.

Wulfram 2 (http://www.wulfram.com) - real-time strategy first-person futuristic tank warfare. Game elements are better experienced than described since it's an older game with a dated graphics engine.

Free Allegiance (http://www.freeallegiance.org) - Mikro$opht gave this game's source code to the worldwide gaming community. Futuristic real-time strategic space warfare. This game's community survives at the link provided today, but requires some studying to understand game mechanics. Community appears to have a low tolerance for under-prepared new players (read their forums).

SubSpace/ContinuĆ¼m (http://www.subspacehq.net) - 2D top-down space combat game. Games and gaming environments vary depending on the server played on--Trench Wars being the most popular among all.

Shattered Galaxy (http://www.sgalaxy.com) - straight forward massively multiplayer online futuristic sci-fi wargame. Can pay to gain certain benefits, but there are no time trials or significant limitations until you reach very high Commander levels. Another game with slightly older graphics--can't run with all options enabled on my obsolete 500Mhz AMD K6-II but runs very well on a 2GHz machine.

Outpost 2: Divided Destiny (http://www.outpost-universe.net) - top-down game now supported by a fanatic fan-base. Real-time strategic sci-fi warfare game. Free to download, free to play, older game once sold under the Sierra Games banner. Community seriously encourages joining in their multiplayer games.

George Moromisato's Neurohack (http://neurohack.com) (The creator of the original DOS-based game, Anacreon Reconstruction 4021) - anyone familiar with the older DOS game, Anacreon, may be pleased to find that the creator is alive, well, and working on an updated and new version of the game, called Anacreon II. Today it sports online multiplayer, in addition to single-player, options and real graphics as opposed to colorful ASCII text. To those unfamiliar, the game is a turn-based futuristic galactic conquest game loosely based upon the historic elements of Issac Asimov's Foundation book series.

great game.no. If your antivirus program doesn't stop you when you're playing that game, that's a bad thing. I sent an e-mail to the game's administrators and they ignored it and left at least three trojan viruses there

Like I said previously, it is a stand alone game.
