Am I alone in saying...

...that Diablo II sucks?

I had heard nothing but good things about it, so when I went shopping for P.C games, I bought it as an afterthought. 3 for 20 pounds, you see.

I installed it without a hitch, and saw the opening cinematic. It was beautiful, so I had high hopes. Which were soon dashed.

The game had a choppy frame-rate, and the graphics were shoddy, with pixelated sprites et cetera.

Also, I had no idea what the fuck was going on. I hadn't plyed Diablo (and I'm not going to) but I thought that it would be explained at the beginning, i.e what had happened previously, why you were doing this et cetera. But no, just a quick explination as to what you were to dao and BAM!, you're trekking through a dungeon at approxiametly 0.0001 meters per second.

So I cleared out the dungeon of beasties and went to save. BAM!!, the game exited to the main menu. I thought "Hmm..." and reloaded it. I'm back in the camp where I started, and the dungeon is infested again. Now I like to save often, so this was NOT COOL!

I gave it to a mate for his birthday, and I hope I never see it again.

Want a better game for half the price? But Arcanum, you'll love it, even if only because an important NPC is named Myrth. More info on what he's about if you want it.

You might have had computer problems, or maybe needed to adjust your settings.

I played Diablo and Diablo II.

I never really liked either, they were never too interesting to me.

If you talk to any of the people in camp, you get the backstory.

The areas only stay cleared during that session. What you need to do is find the "waypoints" and activate them so you can jump ahead to an area you still need to finish.

Most people see the respawn as an advantage -- how else do you get 500th level characters except with lots of carnage? ;)

Well, it sure wasn't compatibility issues.

And the computer plays graphically better games without glitch.

Besides, it doesn't adress most of the problems.

That's how saving works. Only save when you need to. It's the only real problem with the game. And of course you should play the first game first! It's like reading the Lord of the Rings w/out reading the Hobbit first. It just makes so much more sense if you do.

Done that, was still confused.

How come that wasn't mentioned???

Write a decent game?

Meh, it's an old (Five years and rolling) game, and is only really any good in multi-player. The choppiness may be down to your display colour settings, you can actually run, and maps and monsters respawn. (Quests stay quested however)

Hmm...another viewpoint is "save frequently, that way when you die, your still in a good position".

What, and waste a fiver?

I actually did that. It made the Hobbit better, in my opinion.

Then again, Dungeon Siege is about the same age, and far superior.

Oh, and DII saves constantly. The 'save and exit' thing is just there to lull you into a false sense of security... ;)

Obviously it's a very basic game by todays standards, but it just has something on B.net... Must be the mindless slaughter.

:EDIT: Not online it ain't.

Do you have the 1.0, 1.9 or 1.10 version? The last two are rather superior to the former...

None, read the first post.

That and Dungeon Siege: Legends of Aranna.

They're both way better than Diablo.

However, having now played Guild Wars, I think DS is crap. You might want to consider it. It's definitely a better game than DS. If you liked Ds, you'll like Guild Wars, which has more of a point to the missions and an awesome story, and such gorgeous graphics.

Yeah, it saves your experiance, quests completed, and equipment. It just doesn't save exactly where you are. I think it's because the maps are randomly generated, and it's a diffferent map for EVERY character.

You didn't say which, and you must have one of them...

1.0 = D2

1.9 D2 + expansion pack

1.10 D2 + exp pack + latest patch

I play it regularly on b-net. I enjoy the hell out of it. I'm on the East Ladder. :)

You know that no video game (That I've ever played, at any rate) uses the same level of graphics for its cutscenes as it does gameplay?

Anyways, I never got 'round to playing II. Played D1 for a while, but then got readdicted to StarCraft.

I've heard good things, but I'll wait for a price drop and some patches to improve the bugs.

DAMN YOU PATCHES!!!

I gave it away, so how the bloody hell am I supposed to know?

But if it helps, it was a re-release under the "BestSeller Series" collection.

I played DS and DSLOA and liked it a lot more than either of the Diablos.

It was just something about Diablo that never caught me.

Probably the fact that DII was crap.
