WASHINGTON (AP) — Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, who has attacked violent video games as "a silent epidemic" among children, said she wants a federal investigation into one of the most popular, "Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas."

Our tax money well spent.

I do not see what the politicians problems are with games like this? they are harmful to children? Then why are children playing them? Stores are not allowed (not saying they do not) to sell this particular game to anyone under the age of 17. If children are playing it, talk to their parents who purchased it for them (again assuming the rule is enforced). The solution to this whole problem is called better parenting.

What is it with these political adults? They're all, "Dude, video games are getting more violent. (PROOF?) Kids are getting more violent. Therefore, video games are controlling children's minds!"

It's very faulty logic. "My cheese is getting old. I am getting old. Therefore, my cheese is aging me." IT DOESN'T MAKE SENSE!

Violent video games allow children to release their aggressions and anger in the world in a way that does not harm any living thing. Most children that do not have some form of serious mental illness (which would keep them from separating fantasy from reality) are perfectly capable of distinguishing the difference between a video game murder and a real life murder, and realize that many of the things they would do in a video game would not be wrong to do in real life. This outlet should be encouraged!

It is the common idealogical thought amoung political people that non-political people are too stupid to think for themselves and need government guidance in every step in our lives, from video games to driving to what we should eat and drink. At least with that point of view we at least get the bonus of nothing ever being our fault no matter how blatent it is...it was always somebody elses fault...father beat me too much, company let that crack in the sidewalk go unfixed,...ect ect... (ironicly this seems more democratic viewpoint) their supporters are like sheep really though, i have yet seen somebody think for themselves without saying something said by somebody else first.

The government is a business, and it is always looking to expand

Then WHAT I ask, WHAT is going to be in a video game?

It's just not the same...

When has the government ever come out and said "It was their own fault" not "They did it because (insert music, video games, movies, any other form of entertainment) made them do it"?

It's because politicians need to make noise when they are on the campaign trail, and the people that vote in the greatest numbers (traditionally older people, although that has been getting somewhat less the case in the last couple of elections), don't understand video games, so they make an easy target to blame for seniors who are terrified of young hooligans.

Hillary doesn't give a fuck about GTA. The only reason she's even saying a word about this is so that she'll look like she's a champion of "family values" in an attempt to gather more potential votes for her 2008 presidential run.

That is a good idea, I wonder how successful I would be if I walked up to someone in their nice BMW in gang territory, pulled them out of the driver seat and tried to drive off. I think I might make it 10, 15 feet before I get riddled with bullets.

A federal investigation? On what?

Investigator 1: What is this GTA?
Investigator 2: Grand Theft Auto, sir. The game kicks ass!
Investigator 1: I only play SoCom and war games though...
Investigator 2: So typical. Listen, expand your horizons some...and besides...you still get to shoot people..

*Two hours later*

Investigator 1: Woah...this game rules!
Investigator 2: Yeah...and there's two more out for PS2 as well: Vice City and San Andreas...where you get to be a gansta.
Investigator 1: Yeah...I've always wanted to stick it to the man by killing pigs!
Investigator 2: ....what?

It took Robertson 8 weeks to get the high score and Patterson is still stuck on "stealing the cop car" scenario... this game is just to hard for kids, it's just so frustrating that Fred took an uzi and sprayed the bar... even when he knows the AK-47 offers better hitting power and accuracy. this game should be banned and the programmers raped and shot."

That was brilliant.

Anyway, politicians need to stay out of the video game business. They already have the ESRB, in which the industry regulates itself. The last thing we need is the FCC sticking “R” ratings on video games.

I would really enjoy seeing them present that evidence in court.

Lawyer: This is the minigame in question. Now, watch closely!

or the deliberation...

"Did they reach a verdict yet?"
"Nah, they're still reviewing that section in question"
"But it's been 3 days..."
"That's not bad, what is bad is the fact that they also ordered beer, pizza and hookers."
