Cool! I'm getting trashed tonight in celebration of the new deal. (I was going to get trashed anyway, but now I have a good reason.)

Holy Macaroni!

I honestly didn't think this was going to happen. I thought the NHL was boned. Now, at least, I can watch the Red Wings continue their dominance of the West. Go Red Wings!

'Bout time isn't it. I'm so looking forward to seeing the AVS on the ice again. Hopefully Forsberg will be willing to come back for what the AVS can afford to pay him with the new cap rules...

If I were a Bruins fan, I'd be seriously concerned. Hockey is still very much a team sport, and chemistry is an important factor, and those guys have all of 4 guys under contract.

But I'm not, so here's hoping Glen Murray is lured back out West again.

Great. Now I can watch the playoffs when they come around.

I heard a rumour that they are gong to treat player contracts as if the 04-05 season had been played, which will mean that almost half the NHL will be unrestricted free agents. It also means my Lightning will have only 8 players under contract, and just 22 million to sign the rest, with players like Martin St. Louis, Nikolai Khabibulin and Vincent Lecavalier all unrestricted. This stupid labor dispute has flushed any hope for a Stanley CUp repeat down the drain.

lol!

Leafs = suck

What does everybody think about the changes they're making to the game? My bf doesn't seem terribly happy about the whole thing.

Of course he's pretty pissed off at the players for being such jackasses in the first place.

I may well be the only person in the state of Washington that cares about hockey. No team here, no team in Oregon, so our only "local" team is in Vancouver. Love this team! Love this game! Unfortunately Naslund's an unrestricted free and apparently his agent said he couldn't guarantee Naslund would be back in Vancouver. (Translation: Naslund = gone)

EDIT: Spelling.

Technically the lightening shouldn't have even won the first time...

Aside from a number of obvious penalty calls that weren't called against them (i.e. a guy on the Flames was on a breakaway and two guys from Tampa Bay tripped him with a stick...) the Flames won it with a goal that wasn't counted, but as all the cameras showed, went in, in the 6th game.

Well if there's one thing you can say about these deals, it's that they're made quickly. I'd like to congratulate the players and owners for working overtime to make sure a deal was struck as soon as possible.

That goal, was kicked in. No amount of debate or replay will convince anyone on either side to change their opinion, so it's pointless to bring it up. The fact is, the Lightning did win, and they did it by beating lot of good teams. They beat the Islanders in five, swept the Canadians, and beat the Flyers in Seven. Not to mention posting the best record in the Estern Conference, and only 1 point behind Detroit.

Whoopie...

...now I get to continue to hear about a sport that I no longer care about.

For every fan that is ecstatic about the upcoming season, there are three fence-sitters (like myself), that will never give the sport a second glance.

So...good luck NHL, cause you're sure as hell gonna need it.

The only reason the WNBA still exists is because it is owned and operated by the NBA, which continues to pump money into a product that barely breaks even on its own.

The NHL has no such security net.

It's about bloody time they settled this stupid dispute!!!!! I'm tired of these millionaires fighting with their billionaire employers. Don't they realize that alot of them make more than most of the general public can in their entire lives?????
Yah, I love hockey, but these spoiled brats (and I do have a stronger word for them), and I'm talking about BOTH sides, have driven me to be unable to afford to go to a single game in a season.

Here here. I agree 100%. I can't go because of the reasons you stated as well. That's probably why I really only watch the playoffs on TV. Besides that, my team rarely is in the playoffs or get out of the first round anymore.

Benefit of being a Boston fan living in Boston during the season: $20 tickets on thursdays (granted for shitty seats) with a student ID

With their current youth and energy, I'd say they have a shot at it in four or five years, after building a solid veteran base.

I hate both the flyers and pens, but hell, hockey is hockey. I'd be there.

EDIT:
I live near hartford. We had a team. The Hartford Failures...er...whalers. We have the Bruins, Rangers, and Islanders within an hour of our state boarders, but do they get any coverage? no. The Hurricanes do because they WERE the whalers. 10 years ago. And people up here still wonder how the whalers are doing. Shows how much CT likes hockey. bastards.
