Nairobi - A Kenyan woman who admitted to gouging out the eyes and slicing off the tongues of two of her three children before strangling them to death has told police that her only regret was being unable to kill her third child, reported the state-run Kenya News Agency (KNA) on Tuesday.
KNA said Hellen Cherotich, 25, who maimed and murdered her 18-month-old son, Ezra, and three-year-old daughter, Leah, during the weekend, said she felt no guilt for the crimes because she acted in the name of God.
According to KNA, the woman told police that her sole regret was that she was interrupted in her task before being able to kill six-year-old Miriam, who was saved by her father and rushed to hospital with swollen eyes and mouth.
God 'wanted me to kill my children'
KNA quoted Cherotich as telling police in after she was arrested on Saturday: "Why are you people complaining? In fact, I am regretting I did not accomplish my mission."
She said: "God wanted me to kill all the children so that I can have ample time to devote my energies serving Him.
"You should not be worried about the dead children since their spirits are with their maker."
KNA cited the commander of police in the Bomet area, Francis Lemangi, as saying that Cherotich would be given a psychiatric examination this week to determine whether she was mentally capable of standing trial for the two murders.
