I do enjoy making such thread titles thank you very much.

I thought the article was pretty mind-opening about how we think as humans. I fear that it got too political in the end and that might cause problems in this thread. So try not to cause problems.

The title of this thread is misleading, and quite insulting. "Queer" taken to mean "gay, homosexual" is a derogatory term when used by heterosexuals, and it is demeaning of you to try to equate "strangeness" with "homosexuality."

For shame, Colodia! You have gone down in my respect with this and your other baiting thread.

I'm just waiting for someone to point out after reading only the title of this article one of the following:

1. See, if the Universe is gay, how can you ban gay marriage? The Universe is this way, straight people are the weird ones.

2. See what these ungodly perverts are doing now. They're saying that God's creation is just like them to justify their damning sins. This must never be taught in schools.

I bet you'd call a black man objecting to being called a ****** "whiny-ass PC police". Or would you like to rescind your behaviour in insulting a member of a minority that refuses to stand for such demeaning rhetoric?

Pah. Sir Arthur Eddington put it better a hundred or so years ago when he said "Not only is the universe stranger than we imagine, it is stranger than we can
imagine."

We don't really know if the Universe is gay or not, but it's not married and hasn't ever had a girlfriend. So people talk.

No...because I find "******" to be a wholly offensive word with no other use in the language.

And I will not "rescind my behavior" because someone is overly sensitive about a bit of inane wordplay.

You really should get some thicker skin.

Are we operating on the asumption that the cosmos has a penis here? I'd lean towards considering 'it' to be female myself.

God, I would love to have attended that conference! Talk about "thinking outside the box!"

As I have pointed out in other threads, our senses "specify" what our reality is going to look like. On a cultural level, our socialization tends to "specify" what we accept as "normal." When we are challenged in either area to examine other possibilities, our best response ( indeed, perahaps our survival response ) would be to do our best to get our minds around the new information. Unfortunately, many people feel threatened by this. :(

True. Though it extends beyond just culture. It's a part of national identity, religon, gender, age, perhaps even race.

Though we try our best to be open minded, we still have a little voice inside our heads telling us what is normal and acceptable for us to do, and what is not.

I'm open minded to gays, but a little voice inside my head doesn't stop telling me how abnormal it is. Though I'm completely for gay rights. I'm just showing an example from my own perspective.

EDIT: Maybe the mods won't see this thread in it's full flaming glory and simply will pass it by. :D

If your penis or that of your significane other looks even remotely like that then I would strongly advise seeking medical advice at the earliest opportunity.

So, it's not derogatory when used by homosexuals?

And, BTW, by the dictionary definition of the word, homosexuality is strange:

strange Pronunciation Key (strnj)
adj. strangĀ·er, strangĀ·est

1. Not previously known; unfamiliar.
2.
1. Out of the ordinary; unusual or striking.
2. Differing from the normal.
3. Not of one's own or a particular locality, environment, or kind; exotic.
4.
1. Reserved in manner; distant.
2. Not comfortable or at ease; constrained.
5. Not accustomed or conditioned: She was strange to her new duties.
6. Archaic. Of, relating to, or characteristic of another place or part of the world; foreign.

...in the same way that being left-handed is strange :p

I know gay guys that call themselves gay ass queer fags too. If it's used playfully it's all good in my opinion. I don't care what the word is. yes it's good to try to be sensitive to others emotions but come on, let's not go overboard peeplez. I call myself (and my friends) fag, niggah, cracker, dumbass, redneck, retard and belvedere. :p

Of course, I already knew about "middle world", as it's a basic attitude of astrology. ;) It's heartening to see scientists promoting the subjective perspective.
