It's a rather interesting article. What are your thoughts on the matter?

I like Lew. I also did not like the LP exit stragety, though I disagree with Lew's assertion we should just pull out and leave Iraq to the dogs.

However I particularly like this bit: Laissez-Faire Libertarianism can be anarchist of course, but it can also hold the view that the state is necessary to intervene in conflicts over property rights and personal crime. In neither case does this position hold that the regime is capable of doing good for anyone or anything. It is not the creator of order but the enforcer of conditions that exist already in the absence of the state. It is only there to prevent the freed society from being mauled and attacked by its enemies. But it should never go beyond that, nor should the state be credited somehow for creating freedom.

Any Libertarian that thinks Government can fix somthing with the application of money is not a Libertarian.

Yes, obviously any plan to give any kind of aid to Iraq or spend any money on reconstruction is evil, because it violates the Gospel of Laissez-Faire Capitalism as preached by the Prophets Mises, Hayek and Friedman (Peace Be Upon Them). Clearly it would be much better to just withdraw all US troops and deny Iraq any kind of international aid or financial support. Then the Iraqis will get the kind of minimal government that libertarians have always dreamed of!

Well, though I generally believe the above, I also believe in the great Free Market Principle of "You Break It You Buy It".

We are oobliged to do what we can to "fix" Iraq since we decided to break what was there.

"Iraq was a happy place before Team America showed up! They had flowery meadows and rainbow skies and rivers made of chocolate where the children danced and laughed and played all day long with gumdrop smiles."

Iraq was already broken, dude. Bad excuse to want to fix it. I do want to fix it, however, to prevent too many more Saddams emerging from the poverty that would remain for decades upon decades were we to leave now.

The brokenness of before could have been fixed by the free market if there had been a reasonable government in place. But there wasnt, we took out what was there, and broke the infrastructure in doing so. Now we need to clean up our mess before taking our toys and going home.

And yes, we need to fix Iraq for the reasons you say as well.
