We're so proud.
The youngest member at my office, our intern, Molly Peters-Stanley, was highlighted on a local TV station last night. We all know that she is a multi-faceted and accomplished young lady, but this piece highlighted some things even we didn't know about. She never brags about her many, many projects and accomplishments, so, naturally we are all about to bust with pride.

Little Rock - This week's Amazing Arkansas Woman is a college student at UALR and in her short life has already logged 10,000 hours of community service.
Molly Peters-Stanley is very deceiving.
She looks like a typical college student, but the truth is she is unlike any college student.
(Peters-Stanley) "I believe in excellence in everything you do. When I pick up something new, I want to understand it fully."
Stanley is trying to understand the effects of urban renewal on minority populations in central Arkansas.
(Peters-Stanley) "A lot of places had been slated for clearance, us what's there now."
This is the kind of research that has never been done before. She is the kind of student that people rarely run into.
(Dr. Earle Ramsey) "She is a very unusual person she is one of the most unusual people I've encountered.
Dr. Ramsey says it is Molly's interest in so many things that sets her apart.
(Peters-Stanley) "Homeschooling really helped with that, only because to learn new things you have to go out and seek them. It becomes a habit after you develop that...it's really self motivated."
A junior in the exclusive Donaghey Scholar Program at UALR, Molly's studies are rigorous, but she seems to be the poster child for multitasking.
In fact, Dr. Ramsey does not know how she has time to sleep.
(Peters-Stanley) "It's a mystery to me."
Molly teaches ballet to at Risk Youth. She also designs clothing. She designed a gown for Arkansas' first lady, Janet Huckabee, who wore the gown Molly designed at the inauguration for President Bush.
Molly founded and is now President of the the UALR Young Democrats Club and she also has a 4.0 Grade Point Average.
(Dr. Ramsey) "She's quirky kind of interests, things you would never have thought about."
Molly has performed more than 10,000 thousand hours of community service.
Her curiosity and love of learning is what truly sets her apart. That, and trying to squeeze as much out of life as possible.
(Peters-Stanley) "I'm really hoping I can fit it in. Life is short, but it's not that short. There should be time for everything."
I sit back and look at all that Molly has done and is doing and reflect on my younger days...mostly spent in labs. <sigh>
Do you know of or are you an "amazing" person like Molly? Tell us (or just plain brag) about it.
So no one knows of anyone that is exceptional in any way? Hmmmm...guess we're unique here in Arkansas.
Hey, I'm just happy to see another Little Rockian on the boards! :)

Not unique. "Special."

Special as in "short bus"? Be nice Fass. ;)

You're in LR, too? Telegram (TG) me and we'll see how close we live to each other.

I kid. Arkansas is bound to be a nicer place than American media portray it as.

It is really wonderful. I am originally from the Kansas City area, but have lived here for 25 years. I have traveled to all 48 mainland states, Canada, and Mexico (I hope to have time to travel abroad after retirement), and there is just something about Arkansas that makes it a great place to live. The climate is temperate (if you can stand the summer heat and humidity), the people are extremely friendly and social, it has some of the most beautiful scenery in the country, the economy is growing, we have some of the country's best universities and medical facilities, and it has a unique ethnic mix. Not to mention property taxes are low. It is the "Natural State".

Hi, Zooke! ( HUG )
Miss. Molly ( Good Golly! ), sounds a bit like my older grandaughter, although Callie doesn't yet have quite the intensity of Molly. Callie's got an amazing voice and will start in a local high school for gifted and talented this coming September. We're very proud of her.

Hey big guy. Good to see you again. My kids managed to accomplish quite a bit, but this girl leaves all of us here at the office in her dust. Right now she is just an intern, but she has some of our engineers scratching their heads. I love to see an engineer get snookered. :p

Hey, Bill Clinton is from Arkansas, so it can't be all that bad. :)

Bill Clinton is responsible for curtailing the UN and having NATO bomb Serbia-Montenegro without UN support, killing an extended relative of mine ("collateral damage" is the term used, I believe). I don't see him as being any better than other US presidents with blood on their hands. He also signed the DOMA and instituted "don't ask, don't tell." Hence him not being exactly something that will warm me up to Arkansas.

Fass ... is there anything, anything at all, that you feel positive and upbeat about? [ being serious here ]

Well done!

Gelato is nice.
Go Molly!
Well done!
Thank you Willamena. I thought Molly was going to be ignored and another political debate start. One of these days I'm going to post the sighting of a dead dog in the street and see if the majority opinion is if it is Bush's or Clinton's fault....we know one of those 2 guys had to do it.
Gelato is nice.
Peach gelato? mmmmmmmmmm

They did it together, the American pig-dogs! :p
Sorry for the derailment earlier. Notice how I didn't start it, please. Anyway, Arkansas sure does sound nice when you describe it. I'll have to keep it in mind the next time I travel to the US.

- I don't eat Gelato tho.

Yay! :fluffle:
I am a positive and upbeat person, really. It's just that Eutrusca seems to somehow have gotten the notion that I'm not a long, long while ago, and hasn't been all that want to change his flawed perception of me. Sucks for him, I guess.

I'm trying to overcome my addiction to chocolate. Did a little back slide this weekend. Anyway, please do visit Arkansas your next time in the states. We aren't very cosmopolitan but we get by on a moderate amount of sophistication and a big dose of personality.
Sigh. Should have known better. Nevermind.
Anyone who enjoys gelato has to have a sweet side to him. :fluffle:

You know I called you and Tud old fart curmudgeons on one of these threads the other day? Even you 2 have sweet sides, so I'm sure Fass does too. Meanwhile, I'm still looking for stories about people who are outstanding in one way or another. Surely you people know someone who is special in some way.

Ha! Yea, all the eloquent, bent leftwingers I know are positive people :)
I'm not gonna try Gelato tho. I don't eat dairy products. But hey! More for you, eh?
[On topic] I know a girl who've spend most of her life fighting to improve the school system, trying to bring focus on the horrible living conditions for students, helping to establish an organised alternative to the sorrounding society, and who've now moved on to politics.
- She was homeless for most of her youth, she escaped a violent husband, she managed to take an extensive education, and she's raising two kids.
I'd giver her a medal, but I already have, in a way.

Nahh. You just have to trust me on this ... you do not want to get me started about my grandchildren! Heh! Besides, I've already posted in this thread about the oldest one, the others a still a bit too young to figure out what they're going to be like ( although *I* think they're going to be great! ). :D

Hey, Bill Clinton is from Arkansas, so it can't be all that bad. :)
What's good about Clinton? He was basically Bush, but pro-choice.
Well, slight exaggeration, but it just makes me cringe whenever a "liberal" person professes admiration for Clinton, the most right-wing Democrat ever.
Fass ... is there anything, anything at all, that you feel positive and upbeat about? [ being serious here ]
Yeah, cos if Clinton don't make you happy, surely nothing will! [/sarcasm]
